The cause of The Rovers ' serious injury problems is very unlikely to be the pitch. Far more likely is JMcG's methods. He signed players with a history of injury issues, ones who were good players but were available at a lower rate because of their past problems. He also played and trained players who were suffering from ailments, it's reported.
There seems no doubt that " the Kelty Crew" are coming. IM was quoted in the Courier saying that, having spoken to Dean Mckenzie, he had been assured that he would remain as manager next season. John Sim says they have good commercial ideas , so let's see what they can do to improve things - but they won't be bringing shed ( or even conservatory) loads of cash and it's going to be a tough league next season. |

I can tell you from painful personal experience that is what causes the most injuries on artificial surfaces. Planting the foot then trying to make a quick change of direction. The upper body turns to the new direction but the foot stays planted as there is no give in the surface. Result, a twisting force applied to the knee. |

This is true to some degree but some pitches are worse than others and those type of injuries happen on grass too. Vaughan's 1st ACL was on grass at SP and it was at a point in the season (August) when the pitch was still in good condition. His 2nd was also on grass at Brechin in January, poor pitch at the best of times but a ploughed field that day. His third was at Forfar on an artificial surface that was no where near as food as the one at SP. His fourth was a done in training on his home ...er turf so to speak.
I take your point though, it's not just been LV, Spencer and a few others have sustained long term injuries and the pitch may have been a factor.
Professional footballers general hate the stuff but there has been a lot of comments saying that the one in place at SP is one of the better ones.
On the negative side it's artificial and has it's issues.
On the plus side it brings in revenue and saves the club from hiring places like Michael Woods in Glenrothes to train on.
Having played on a few artificial surfaces in my time (Alloa, Stenhousemuir, East Fife, Anfield (Stirling) and the RPC at Dundee I can say without hesitation that despite it's few shortcomings it's streets ahead of those other venues.
We can safely bet that if it was grass we still had down the pitch wouldn't have been a as good to play on as the current surface is, it's downsides are few but one of them seems to be that it seems very slippy in places. It looks like it cost Gatson a goal yesterday and he was quick to change his boots soon after his slip. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 16, Easton 11, Hamilton 9, Smith 7, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

I can remember one day when I was running out on to the park to get the mascots and I felt the left foot begin to go. Managed to save it but all that was going through my head was the pure riddy I would get if Roary took a tumble at Starks |

Just listened to the Saturday Sports Show on K107 ( starting 50 minutes in) and am now much more optimistic about the effect of the likely changes in the Boardroom and
internal structure at SP.
Some of you will have already tuned in to this ,perhaps because of posts on the other channel, but if you haven't , I strongly suggest that you give it a listen . |

Is it planned to introduce the consortium members to the Raith support at half - time
tomorrow evening ?
I'm crossing fingers that the deal was finalised yesterday ( and that the doom merchant on the other channel is no true Cassandra). |

Officially a done deal according to the Raith Twitter account and now the main site.
Dean Mckenzie, Colin Smart, Ruaridh Kilgour, Andrew Barrowman, Steven MacDonald, and Allan Halliday are the new investment group.

At face value I am very pleased at that collection of supporters and professionals taking control. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

Certainly puts to bed all the fake rumours that were doing the rounds, and on the face of it seems as good a mix of expertise than we could have hoped for, I just hope they dont start tinkering with the Manager and his assistant |

Optimistic about the new regime!
I know it's not everything but plenty of long-term supporters of The Rovers in the mix.
They will have great plans but high on that list must be an out-and-out number nine striker and an experienced centre half. The new era must be a selling point for IM to use. |

Colin and Steven in the mix is reassuring. |

I hope the first thing they do is rip that sign off the top of the North Stand and burn it
I wish them well, of course I do, it's my club I want to see them prosper on and off the pitch. Only time will tell whether or not the fickle Rovers support buy into their plans and aspirations. Certainly improving the match day experience will be key, again both on and off the pitch. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |
