One thing in particular summed our season up on Saturday for me. When the ball was played back to David Mcgurn, he was under pressure straight away from the attacker, often forced to take a kick first time on his weaker foot.
When the ball was played back to Andy Mcneil, he had time to control the ball, walk with it, look up, play a pass, and receive the ball back. When you are at home and desperate for points, that kind of lack of urgency is unforgivable.
All we are doing is sitting back and inviting teams to play football against us. We may be "keyboard warriors" and we dont have coaching badges or qualifications, but the entire South Stand can see week in week out what our problems are at the moment - its hard to understand how the management team don't.
This season has a frigtning simarility to the one ten years ago under Heatherston/Scott. A team of decent players who are good enough to finish comfortably mid-table, playing awful football with awful tactics. |

having serious 2nd thoughts on wether to invest in the Rovers shares now after these recent displays. Ive seen a few other posts and agree with some of the comments but seriously what is going on, are we going to become the wipping team of the league or what ?

The coaching staff have no excuses. There are a couple of options:
1. Thoroughly review the videotape (pretty sure it hasn't been done for a while, considering the way we continually defend set-pieces)
2. Get one of the coaching staff to sit in either the North or South stand (preferably in both locations) to give a crow's nest view of things going on. This could be reduced to one as many posters here are spot on with their observations.
3. Stick a video camera on the TV gantry within the South stand.
4. JMcG could come onto this forum and see where he's been severely lacking. |

Does anyone know of any senior team anywhere that defends every corner with 11 men in/around the box?
Obviously there is a time and a place (1nil up in the 95th min etc) however I see NO benefit of what we do?
Surely having Baird (5ft7!!) on the halway line and one of our 'pacey' wingers nearby would unclutter the box, keep at least 3 of their players back and instead of us clearing the ball to opponent to come back at us....it might actually result in us doing a bit of attacking ourselves??
Please someone with a John McGlynn head on explain the pros to this tactic? Thanks in advance. |

I am totally the same. I was on the verge of buying shares for my sons Christmas so that he had something to link him with the club for the long term.
Actually having to watch the disappointment on his face every Saturday and explain that "it might not look like it but I am sure the players are actually trying" has totally ended that idea as a christmas present. Thats £500 lost to the club because of the utter dross on the park.
Here are questions which I have had to answer recently:
"why do they not learn from last weeks mistakes?"
"How will we score with no-one in the box?"
"Don't the player realise Baird is not tall enough to get that ball"
"Why do the players walk about and not run like the other team" admittedly that was before the Hearts players arrived.
"If we have so many defenders how come none of them get the ball" first half against livi when they flashed a free header wide.
He is just a kid (and not even a footballer) and can see some of the these problems.
If the current form continues I am sure he will find better things to do on a Saturday pretty soon. That will be at least one more fan lost. |

I think those who put all the time and effort into raising funds for Raith with fund raising ideas are being seriously let down by the performance of the team/management that plays on the pitch week in week out.
I am also annoyed that some of our youth players are being overlooked repeatedly you have the young lad Main who looks every bit a very good player for the future, but knowing Raith he will be released !
Dear Santa
All I want for Christmas is for Raith to start progressing back up the 1st division and avoid relegation ! Lol

Wow, not logged into fantalk for pretty much all of this season and genuinely cannot believe there is a thread about this!
Granted we have been under performing this season. Certainly questions can be asked about team performance, selection and tactics. However, to suggest McGylnn should go is quite frankly ridiculous.
We had to offload players in the summer leaving us with 15 senior players....McGlynn has barely any resources at all to work with. Given our current situation do people expect that we should still be challenging for the title? Not only do we not have the resources to fire McGlynn and hire someone else but what we would be offering the new man in charge?...Nothing he would have even less to work with than McGlynn has now.
This was always going to be a hard season - which I believe we will survive. I realise some of the performances on the pitch have been dreadful but we really need to get behind the team and show some support and beleif if we are to survive. |

I'm not calling for McGlynns head - but what we are wathcing on a Saturday has little to do with the reasons you cite these are basc footballing skills you will see at any park. |

As for under perfoming this season.It goes back to the tail end of last season even though we were challenging for the league.

I've completely forgotten how to add a quote on here so please bear with me.
NR - I'm not suggesting it is an excuse, as I previously said questions do have to be asked about team selection and marking etc. However some of that critism has to be a reflection on the players as well as JM. The title of the thread asks the question should McGlynn stay or go? In my view absolutely not. Even if we heaped the entireity of the blame for the position we are in onto JM we still cant afford to pay him off as we dont have the money to!
Vinnie - in regards to resources, I see what you mean but I don't really agree. Even if you have modest resources to work with you would expect at least a modest performance. But if you don't even have modest resources in the first place and are struggling to even pull enough players for a complete squad, I don't see how we can expect anything other than to be involved in a relegation scrap.
For what its worth I do think our playing style in recent games has been shocking. Long hopeful balls just simply arent the answer. We need to get the ball on the deck and start playing to our strenghts (the few that we do have.) [/quote] |

We`ll have to agree to disagree.I think our resources/quality of squad is no worse than the majority of teams in the division which has been shown in games against Hamilton home and away,Partick at home and the likes.
