A wee story behind a couple of photos.
The photo of the 1903-04 team resided in our house for all the time I was there, and after I left home. No idea how it got there. Can only think someone gave it to the old man as it was something to do with Raith Rovers. The names were originally handwritten in pen and were becoming hard to read. I got a local framer to put the insert with modern printed names into the mounting card as well as reframing it as the one it had was falling apart!
I gave it to the club when clearing my dad's house along with an autographed postcard photo of the record goal scoring 1937-38 team. This was removed from the boardroom during the 'Penman years' sometime in the mid to late 1990's after a 'clear up' and apparently ended up in the Novar.
It can no longer be traced.
If I'd known that was its future fate I'd have handed it to the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden. There are plenty of photos/pics of that team but this was autographed by the record breaking team at the Victory Ball held at the end of that season. As far as I was aware it was unique for that.
Francis Joyner's name was missing as he'd been transferred by then, but the old man caught up with him when he came back to the club in the late 40's and Francis duly signed it to complete the set.
I must admit that its loss still rankles a wee bit.
