I have deliberately stayed away from FanTalk all season as I didn't want to get drawn into any public discussions or arguments about the Board/choice of manager/form/team selections or whatever generates heat and smoke across the forums. But I'm crawling out from under my rock to as I want to offer some thoughts on all that has been said about the goalkeeping debacle and the Ayr game.

In a nutshell, it's a case of 'damned if you do and equally damned if you don't'.

It's easy with hindsight to squeal that the club should have gone out and signed a goalkeeper a few weeks back when Kevin Cuthbert was injured. If they had done so at the time then I've no doubt that many folk on here and other social media outlets would have accused the board of wasting money we don't have in paying a wage to someone who, in all likelihood, was liable to spend their time on the bench.

A gamble was taken....one which was reasonable give that only the worst run of imaginable luck would see us lose a third goalkeeper to an injury during any matches....a gamble that hasn't paid off and led to the club having to put a contingency plan into operation. What transpired was an effort to get the best possible solution for Raith Rovers which was to bring an experienced keeper in for what is an important run of matches. As far as I can see, this looked a likely outcome until late on Monday night.

Turning to the criticism of Raith TV and the airing of Yogi's interview.

If they had that in the can but not broadcast it, then again folk on here would have had a go at them for not sharing info with the fans. It's also worth noting that the manager had already spoken at length to the media before he gave such a lengthy interview to Davie Hancock and much of what he said on camera to Raith TV was a repeat of his earlier comments to press and reporters at the game.

One final observation. A good number of fans of other clubs, who I either work alongside or am friendly with, have spoken to me last night and/or today to offer sympathy at how Raith Rovers have been treated by the SPFL, These fans of other clubs are more than willing to lay the blame entirely at the feet of the governing body. And that's without viewing the videos with Yogi and Eric which put the meat on the bones of the argument. It just seems that too many Rovers fans want to use the whole thing to vent spleen about the way the club has been run this season and not actually accept that everyone was doing their very best to act in the club's interests.

That SIr is spot on.........EXACTLY how i feel about the whole thing. Listened to Yogi speaking to sportsound after the game and if he gets into bother it will be for that - not the raith tv interview.

Well said SIr - don't stay away - you seem to talk sense !

Amidst all the analysis in hindsight over the FARCE whoever is to blame (personally think BOTH SPFL and Raith are to blame in their own ways), everyone is missing something.

Ryan Stevenson stepped up to the mark, and from what I hear had a decent game in the goals for us.

Wasn't exactly overjoyed when we signed him, but give the lad a big dose of the credit he is due. Didnt hear any other players we have stepping up to pull on the gloves.

That game could have finished a lot worse for our goal difference.

Well done Ryan Stevenson.

I did give my thanks to him on page 7 as it was obvious he did very well and the defeat was not due to what he'd been forced to do. Maybe a late change in career beckons but I doubt it from his post match comments. Wink

I think Davo was secretly peeved that he wasn't asked and instead had to play in midfield.
I even heard a rumour that he'd been spotted in Spots Direct on Tuesday morning trying on goalie gloves. Wink Shocked

Perhaps this was why the midfield performance was so abject on Tuesday.

Doubt it, as Davo has been rank rotten every time he has played in midfield this season, even when we had fit goalie(s)!!!!!!!!

Maybe someone can put me right, I have had a look over the SPFL website, there doesn't seem to be any mission statement, charter or any such document. It all seems to be rules, rules, rules.
Whilst I appreciate they need rules to run the game properly, surely, as the governing body, there should be something in there about what support services are available to clubs.
I don't believe anyone can know every law and by-law inside out so surely that is where a governing body comes in. Yes, the club may have been partly culpable for some of what went wrong with the goalkeeper fiasco, clearly their hands were tied to a certain extent, but I believe the SPFL are just as at fault for not making every option clear to the club.
For smaller clubs like ours that cannot afford an army of lawyers, it is beholden on the governing body to offer support at all times and not just be there to enforce draconian laws and penalise clubs.
Same old story methinks, it is there merely to serve the big clubs and provincial clubs like ours are merely a necessary inconvenience for them.
