A lot of gums getting bumped about who's the best goalie between the sticks for the rovers .
IMO, McGurn,
superb shot stopper and fantastic reaction saves . Not so strong at the cross ball . I can't remember him ever saving a penalty.
Cuthbert,
good distribution, very good at coming out for the cross ball and catching. Always vocal and good organisation with the defence. Found wanting at times with butter fingers.
Laidlaw,
I have seen some very good performances, I have seen him save 2 penalties at Starks and keep us in the game. Lacks match time and consistently.
All keepers have good qualities in their own right, however everyone of them has not kept a clean sheet pre season.

I voted for cuthbert purely on the basis he is clearly the managers choice and feel we must support the manager. _________________ now enjoying my fishing time, at peace with nature. but being a avid radio ham my global contacts have increased. any hams around call me lz2csk on 14200 or their aboyuts |

The reason Davie had so much backing last season was because he is a legend and Murray had no 'credit' with the fans, me included. It was a shame for Cuthbert as he is a good goalie.
This season, with Ray at the helm, I will give him my backing and he does seem light years ahead of Murray, I'll back him.
Heart says McGurn, head says Cuthbert. I'll go with my head and go for Cuthbert with a caveat that Davie is the best keeper we've ever had. _________________ A proud member of the 45. Saor Alba. |

My head and heart says the same thing, a manager should pick his best players in their best positions (*unless they are disrupting the team) and play his strongest team and for me that means McGurn in goal and Cuthbert on the bench. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 18, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

McGurn, has often been the difference between a win being a draw and a draw being a defeat. I reckon he alone contributes about 12 points a season. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

Love McGurn. But I understand what Ray is trying to achieve. We need to trust him - unless he gives us a reason not to.
Get Davie out on loan and free up a wage to bring in another striker. |

Half agree but loan out Cuthbert to free up even more money. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 18, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

Ive voted for Cuthbert simply because hes in possession of the no1 spot at the moment I think McGurn is a great keeper but I totally get McKinnons viewpoint on this he sees Cuthbert train every day so fair play .
Also think hes looked much more able this season so far too so until he makes a mistake hes gotta be 1st choice _________________ players only love you when they're playing |

I've got with Cuthbert - I think he is a better all round goalkeeper. Davie does the exciting things well, but I think Cuthbert should be our number 1. |

In many ways its not McKinnons fault that he doesn't rate McGurn, he simply hasn't seen the amount of jaw dropping saves that we have. Of course as the games go by and Cuthbert concedes goals , McKinnon will shrug and think maybe rightly so that the keeper couldn't do much to stop it without realising that McGurn is so good that he could have stopped it. McGurn is a special keeper, we should make the most of him while we have him. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

I agree that McGurn is special to us fans but I do think that Cuthbert should and deserves to get his chance. The manager obviously has faith in him and to be fair, Davie may be the better shot stopper but Cuthbert commands his area much better. I would also suggest his distribution is sharper too.
Laidlaw is developing into an excellent keeper too and would probably benefit more from a loan deal than Davie would at this stage of his career. _________________ Championship Winners 2023-24 |

If it's a question of who's the best keeper - McGurn by a stretch.
However, given what McKinnon has seen so far, I can understand why Cuthbert was 1st choice yesterday. And while he is 1st choice he'll have my full backing. I'd much rather Cuthbert kept the jersey as a result of many clean sheets, rahter than wishing him to drop a few clangers in order to get McGurn back in. _________________ Dougie Hill

On what I've seen over years, Rovers won't get another keeper as good as Davie for a long time, and I can't see why this has changed over the close season. I realise that McKinnon won't have seen as much as Davie as he's part time but he should be doing his homework. He only has to look back to last season for the evidence when Murray had all 3 keepers playing during the season and only one consistently done the business.
The part time thing seems to be going heavily against McGurn with our managers, but if we could get a team of part time players, the same standard as Davie, I'd have them as my first choices every week. |

I agree with all the comments regarding Davie. Normally he would be my number 1 choice, but if I can see Ray's viewpoint. As the new manager, he is a new pair of eyes. Every player has been afforded a clean slate, which is the correct method. If I was the new manager, I would be doing the same and would be rejecting any outside interference.
I can only surmise that Kevin has been doing well in training and has earned the right to start the season as Rovers' No. 1. He is a good solid 'keeper.
As for Davie's performances in the past, yes he's been unbelievable and earned us 10-12 points a season, Ray will be aware of that, but the performances since he became manager is the key. _________________ A proud member of the 45. Saor Alba. |
