Thought we did fine yesterday to be honest.
It was a scrappy game, which was played more like a derby or cup tie. Thought Herron did as well as he could there, but playing two centre mids out wide didn't work out.
Difficult game as Ayr came to kick us off the park, and did so. The boy Adams was really lucky not to see red, red bottled it in my view.
Staggering to see Ian Mcall question another clubs professionalism, considering his telling contribution to the game is doing a jobby in someone's shoe.
Good reaction to get the equaliser, and as the game went on it became more open and it became more important not to lose the game. Sometimes it's not the worst thing to take the point and move on.
Worth noting that Ayr have averaged 3 goals a game away from home this season. I think a 1-1 draw where we were arguably the better side isn't the worst result in the world. |

Cal's sale could yet turn out to be a better deal than we think - unlike last season's inept farces. So the opportunity was taken to freshen up the board-room and its dealings. The biggest threat was / is that we could stay down, lose everything we built up this season, scale down even further and start again at Square One.
Right now we are sitting pretty in League 1 - even if the football is not always so pretty. I can live with that! If / when we get promoted, that would be the time to build on what we have now.
Teams are sussing Ayr's weaknesses now - like they did with us earlier. Would you want to be an Ayr fan right now? If the ayrse falls out of that Ayr team, nobody else is near to pressing us.
I had my whinges when we suddenly lost eight goals in three games, but all in all, Barry Smith has done a great job, under a lot of pressure with a very small squad in very difficult circumstances. |

However, if you guys are happy with the performances and the style of play than be that, be happy.
But its far from being great.
For example, practically the whole southstand shouts for Smith to hurry up instead of slowing the game down, for Smith to come off his line to collect crosses & corners. The same fans shouting at defenders to clear the ball away instead of kicking the ball or heading the ball a few yards away or worse directly to the opposition. Head tennis instead of when having the time controlling the ball. Throw-ins are laughable.
All these errors and examples of poor play have been with us the whole season and the coaches haven't really done anything about it.
I wonder what the Former Raith Rovers Players think when they watch the games especially Jock McStay who played in one the greatest Raith Rovers side ever looks at the ability and performances? |

We sat back with about 5mins to play & invited Ayr onto us, I just think we should have stretched the game & brought on Court or Osei fro Buchanan & also maybe Hendry for Spence & flooded the midfield. |
I just love this forum.
With Tam's usual negative ramblings (I'm sure he complained about Peter Hetherston's throw-ins back in the day, so no change there); with AU's outrageous trolling, and much much more, it's great Sunday morning reading.
But this one had me laughing out loud. MO entitled to give opinion that subs in last 5 mins would've been a valid option. Personally, I disagree, as changing the shape of a game where the result is shaping up as acceptable is an unnecessary risk.
No, it's just that I'd love to know how a double substitution to both stretch the game and flood the midfield at the same time would work out. |

Watched our highlights and seemed a decent game given its League 1 standard in Scotland and not La Liga or wherever else.
A wee word or two for whoever is doing the editing. Thank you.
Your efforts are much appreciated. The only thing I missed slightly was the slow mo blow up of an incident like ..was it a penalty or not, or maybe handball.
Anyway, congratulations on stepping into big hard shoes to fill. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Unexpectedly able to get to the game yesterday. Enjoyed the match although disappointed not to win. Agree with most of the other posters re performances etc but I feel I need to make comment regarding Tam’s ‘negative’ post. I agree with others who say sometimes expectations can be too high. However some of the points that Tam made were highly relevant. For a long time now there has been a lack of variety or initiative with throwing and free kicks. By and large opposition suss them out quickly. Yesterday we were slow to put a boot in to clear the ball resulting in further pressure. For a while in first half especially in defence we hung off opposing players too much. These are all things which are basic and can be addressed, no matter what level we play at. And any aspirations to be a higher league team will be defined by our ability to improve on those and other weaknesses.
I am in agreement with Tam - there is room for improvement, but accept that at the level we are at, it has to be taken in context. _________________ He's no' hairy mary he's the Rovers' little fairy!

Think that was the one where the ball hit the junction of post and bar but even from where I was sitting in the South Stand one or two people thought Smith got a finger to it. |
Nah he didn't touch that. |
Twas a good save, the frame of the goal or net never moved, I was behind that goal. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

I remember Cuthbert getting pelters a couple of years ago. Some people just can't get over Mcgurn departing. Remember we are playing in the 3rd tier. World class keepers don't tend to play in our league. |
I agree 100% with this. Given that our manager is an ex centre-half, and one of his assistants is a goalkeeper, I think they know exactly what they want from a goalkeeper. He never stops shouting throughout the game, and I would give him a lot of credit for the performances of a defence that has been makeshift for almost the whole season so far.
Rovers fans are incredible - top of the league with three players in double figures for goals scored and the best defensive record in the country, and we still find reasons to be miserable! _________________ Follow the Trust on facebook and twitter |

You're right.
We're all miserably happy and are awaiting Armageddon any time we take to the field. If we cannae win by three clear goals playing silky soccer it's a disaster. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Another strange tactic we seem to accept as normal is the keeper kicking out from a goal kick and we see 20 outfield players move over to one side of the pitch.
Let’s surprise the opposition by Smith kicking up the empty side of the park and our outfield players breaking from the pack. |

I would imagine that tactic has been gamed in countless training sessions by countless teams over the decades. It isn't unique to Raith keepers taking goal kicks and would imagine there is a very good reason why the keeper doesn't just kick in into the empty side of the field. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

Just watched ayrs highlights of the game. Found them on YouTube, through their Twitter.
In think we got lucky in that Ayr were not awarded a penalty from a Davo challenge in the first half. It may of been soft but Davo clearly hits the player rather than the ball. We might of found it hard to come back from 2 down had then been awarded it and then scored. |
