The key aspects to a good atmosphere at a ground always were and always will be:
A, A decent sized crowd.
B, An entertaining game.
Sitting is provenly good for moaning, or so it seems. |
Especially so when your point B is missing. |
Certainly wasn't missing last Saturday, yet..... _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 18, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

Turn a blind eye to hip flasks and the atmosphere would improve. _________________ This is the year we win the Play-offs. |

yup, or reintroduce alcohol at the kiosk - as happens in England with no bother - and turn the concourse into a 'fan zone' pre-match, with music and entertainment to get the place bouncing. Clubs in England do this succesffully. |

Ive stood at plenty grounds watching the Rovers with dreadful atmopsheres.
Ive sat at plenty with great atmospheres.
A team that has something meaningful to fight for, with a decent crowd leads to a decent atmosphere. |

I've been at far more games standing than sitting with a decent atmosphere, all seated grounds are not IMO conducive to fan participation, I'm in favour off safe standing areas and it's at least something that should be considered. _________________ We dont need no stinking badges |

It shouldnt be considered by a club like Raith Rovers.
Not unless you can guarantee that the additional fans who attend games as a result cover and exceed the cost of the implementation of it.
How many people really stay away from games because they cant stand? |

In reply to Calderons post above:-
I would certainly think about it on a freezing winters day, unable to move about frozen to a plastic chair, but the real answer is nobody knows, but what is without doubt IMO is that the atmosphere at SP has been in decline for years and that ties in with the removal of terraces, you can bluster about it all you want but I think it's something to consider, at least get a cost for it and don't dismiss it out of hand. _________________ We dont need no stinking badges

The dourness of our support and Scottish people in general doesn't help. Was watching the eridevise (not sure spelling, it was Dutch league!) Everyone had seats, many not sitting in them, flags, songs, general noise, excitement, anticipation... Basically the atmosphere was great for games of a similar standard and meaning of St Johnstone v Kilmarnock.
Our own atmosphere has never been good, it has gotten worse last year or two mainly due to standard of football being worse, boring to a point. Lots of our regular fanbase has gone (hopefully temporarily) the likes of Fifes Finest a few years ago would have 40+ guys at home games easily, now it's half of that at a push. Respect to them for attempting to start a song or that but they are fighting a losing battle these days.
Our current management and players have little or no connection with the fans, the football in general last year and a half has been Richard Guff. The cost is too high, the weather is crap. Our expectations these days appears to be finish above part time sides.
The options above? Sack Murray good start cause our club is in a kind of depression which would be best lifted by a fresh approach and new ideas all round. |

I thought anyone can use/abuse the "200 club" ?? the bar in the south stand?
so no excuse if you want a bevvy
TBH I think bring back the kids free and free entry/invite boys clubs to every home game.
It;s the kids that will bring more atmosphere as the current support is a bunch of ageing grumpy old men/women

Totally agree that a good atmosphere starts on the pitch.
However, maybe if Gav & his crew sat at the rear of the South Stand it might encourage more folk to join in. Quite often I can hardly hear them on matchdays.
Although I do understand Gav might be too old to climb such heights these days.
Stair lifts perhaps??? |

Now now but it is a struggle up them stairs thats why we sit down the front these days.We all talk about the atmosphere but if folk were standing together it would be far better than sitting and trying to sing.If a stair lift was put in and there was a bar open at the back of the stand then we would definitely flit up there. On a serious note if we thought that we could influence the atmosphere at home games by going up the back then we would serious think about it.However due to some of the stick we take for whatever reason i very much doubt anyone would be influeneced enough from us up there. That isnt going to happen and the moaners would still moan. We all look at what goes on abroad and even down south but if you arent allowed to crowd surf or wave flags then thats one idea out the window. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

Often when I've been at away games, sitting, the atmosphere has been better than at Starks. One reason for this, is often the away team restrict the area we can sit it, forcing everyone into a smaller space.
Our home crowds are often small enough to mean everyone could sit in the middle sections of the stand the R(rovers) and F sections of the RRFC or with smaller crowds maybe just the F. This in my opinion would go some way to improving the atmosphere, but like a lot of things, would require certain supporters to compromise and not sit in their favoured seats. |
