Murray and Campbell would probably be my first choice depending on who we are playing. Lacking mobility. And Dougie Hill has been excellent since he joined. Wins so many last ditch tackles.
I honestly don't know who my 1st choice team would be just now. |
I was thinking the same yesterday, the midfield an strikers should pretty much pick themselves but JM has assembled a very good defence and it will be difficult to drop two of six. |
Another option is to play a very attacking 4-5-1
eg
with a back 4 of Wilson, Campbell, Hill, Ellis/Dyer
Then Murray playing a holding role in midfield. Could work. Also how solid would the centre of the team be! |

Talking to a work colleague today who is a United fan and he asked who Davidson was and was he any good. I swiftly replied "no" and had to admit that he was our captain.
Once he finished laughing he said he couldn't believe that he was captain. I genuinely fear that if an away fan can tell that our captaing is a total muppet after one game - How can our manager not realise that after 3 seasons?
I know I'll get abuse for this but I'm beggining to wonder if McGlynn has taken us as far as he can. He's been a good manager so far and I hope i'm wrong but the tail end of last season was aweful and we look to have started where we left off.
Please, please, please remove Davidson as captain for the good of Raith Rovers. |

You are going to get abuse for this post no doubt but I've been thinking more or less along the same lines. |

The thought had crossed my mind but I think JM has AT LEAST meritited another season.
The end of last season was a joke due to the amount of injuries and the ridiculous fixture back log. I don't think JM can be judged on that. Our objective was to stay in the league. He achieved it and got us a nice wee cup run into the bargain. Now we need to look at consolidating and strengthening our position. Would be more than happy with 6th/7th/8th placed finished this season and look to build again for next year.
I know a lot of these guys have served us well in the past but over the next year we need to look at moving on the likes of davo, weir, williamson et al. Would be interesting to see who JM would get in after some more contracts run out. Obviously we need to see how this season goes before we cross that bridge. But assuming we stay in the league this year he should be judged on progression next season. (and of course that all depends on a budget being in place that means we have the cash to spend in the first place) |

Absolute nonsense.
Listen. We have played ONE GAME of the new season. We lost the same one last season, and were 2-0 down at half time of the game coming. Give it time, for Christ sake. |

So true, however we are still making the same mistakes as last year. |

My worry is despite the friendly games being little more than taining games we have not looked good.
The idea was clearly to play a lower standard of opposition (Dundee Utd aside obviously) to score some goals and boost players confidence and it hasn't happened. To compound this when we have played a higher standard of opposition we have been found wanting.
I've only seen the two games in Montrose and Forfar but having heard reports and seen the highlights of late is being worried not a justifiable reaction to have?
Dyer looked ok against Montrose as did McBride but to put that game into perspective Peterhead thumped 5 past them and conceded none. And the Forfar game was god awful.
Tam & I have cried out for a creative midfielder for nigh on 3 years now and although I would agree that a striker who's a genuine goal threat is 1st priority we do need to address the missing link in the middle of the park and I'm not referring to Mr Davidson either.
Friendlies and a diddy cup game they may have been but we don't look like a shadow of what we were at the end of the season past. We definately don't look like we are ready to face East Fife nevermind what's coming in the 1st division.
I think the worrying reaction on show by many is perfectly justifiable at this stage. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 18, Easton 11, Hamilton 10, Smith 9, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

I'm more looking at the standard of player we've got in. The squad last year was only just enough to keep us competitive and we're weaker this season.
Are you happy with our midfield? Other than Baird and McNeil our signings have been terrible. McBride for Smithy???? Terrible shout.
I'm pretty sure we'll have enough for EF on Saturday BUT we will find it very difficult in the first Division with this team.
Feel free to remember the post and quote it at the end of the season |

How do you know McBride won't turn into a good player though? _________________ Goal Count 10/11

Give all new players a bit of time.
Look at Mr Tade last season. Many of you were against him coming here (not me) and look what he blossomed into.
I think McBride has the ability, just needs to be able to do a few moves to fool right backs, who in all honesty, are better than those in Div 2. Give him a chance. _________________ A proud member of the 45. Saor Alba. |

Correct. The boy's 19 or 20 years old. He's just young and will learn under McGlynn. Give him a chance. |

I wish I was surprised by the massive over-reaction to a disappointing pre-season.
We have played ONE competitive game and people are writing off our new players already. After a couple of seasons of realism and fantastic support from the fans we appear to be reverting to the old, impatient, boo the team off at half time when we're one goal down type of supporters.
Booing the players as a team or simply booing an individual will only make things worse, not better. If a player is having a nightmare I'm sure that if the fans gave him a bit of encouragement rather than slating him every touch he takes, he'd respond better by being at ease, knowing that the crowd were right behind him, rather than ready to put him under pressure before the *beep* ball even reached him.
McGlynn has improved us every season and I can't see this season being much different.
Being a happy clapper and respecting the managers choice for captain I'd choose Laurie Ellis as captain if Davo wasn't available. Sparky and Murray are born leaders too but Laurie always seems very vocal and is constantly encouraging.
He'd make a good supporter actually. |

Ok so w should give the guy a chance because he's 19 and might one day be a good player? By the same logic Lee Bryce (if he was still here), Jamie Mackie, Wedderburn etc should all be in the first team starting 11 also? The guy is not good enough at this moment in time and could play for the 19's/reserve team. How about the fact that most of the time he runs up the wing he runs out of ideas and gets very easily pushed off the ball...
I don't consider myself to be over reacting at all, i wish i was infact. This season will be a case of hoping that Cowden etc are weaker rather than us being a solid 1st division team, we're not and are a weaker side in comparison to last season.
Like i said before i hope i'm wrong and will support the team and pay my gate money no matter what but will also say what i see. |
