As i've stated before, I reckon Davidson is captain mainly because he lives locally and is happy to represent the club in the community. If Campbell was full time and lived locally then i'm sure he would be captain. I know a few clubs have a club captain and a different team captain. I think that would be perfect for us as the club captain, Davidson could represent us in the community, get his picture taken at various events. Then our team captain, Campbell or Ellis can do the traditional job by motivating and encouraging his teammates.

I'm not sure of Ellis' status, whether he is full time or part time, whether he lives locally. If having 2 captains doesn't suit us then perhaps Ellis would be the best bet if he was prepared to represent us in the community.

For the record, I think it's great that we have players(not just Davidson) who are happy to spend some of their free time representing the club at events in the community.

Davidson should have been removed of his captaincy after he punched the Arbroath player in the face after the final whistlle at Gayfield. I would have Ellis as captain. He encourages his fellow team mates and he seems to have a better understanding of the fans perspective. Davidson's body language tells it all at times. When he scored that scrappy header at Montrose he just casually walked back to his own half. I know it was just a pre season game and I didn't expect cartwheels but compared to Baird's reaction when he scored it gave the impression that Davo just didn't care. Also, when he missed two great chances on Saturday, the head went down and he let his frustration show. The other players are bound to pick up on that.

Niall makes some good points. Maybe the community role of the captaincy is seen as more important and hence why Davo gets the gig. You can't deny he fills that role well and he seems to be always willing to particiapte in anything the club do.

Playing devils advocate- if we have natural leaders like Sparky and Ellis on the pitch, does it really matter who has the armband?

As Stevo says, Davo seems to be going a great job with the community role side of the captaincy....kind of clashes with punching people at gayfield does it not? Not exactly what I would describe being good role model.

It makes no difference where a a full time player stays.Doing your bit in the community should be part of every full time players remit.

I see the point but the cpatain automatically starts every game. Can we honestly say that over the last year Davidson deserves a place in the team every week without question?

I agree with Vinnie re community commitments, its not as if the players are in 9-5 Monday-Friday and playing on a Saturday. A couple of hours training a day? I'd be delighted to pop along to a school or something for something to do. They must be bored out their minds most days.

Does it really matter if its the captain doing the community commitments? Davidson tends to do them as he's local (and obviously willing, to give him his due). Same story with McBride though, he's even done a few gigs on his own through the summer. So not sure you could use that as justification either tbh.

Telling that one in forty seven Rovers fans agree with our choice of captain.

Wouldnt disagree with either Campbell or Ellis having it, but my choice would be GRANT MURRAY

He is an experienced pro, and organises well. He has the experiences of playing much higher profile football over any of the others. I was particularly impressed with him leading us out against Aberdeen at Pitodrie in the cup, and ive never seen such a makeshift defence look so organised! Him and Simmons let absolutly nothing thru!!!

Do you know what, that is a great shout. Didn't even consider him, can't think why.

Couldn't agree more. Murray (as well as either Campbell or Ellis) would be an ideal choice. Suppose it will come down to JM's plans. He might not make the starting 11 if everyone is fit.

On the basis that Williamson seems to get a game every week and he is dreadful.

Murray and Campbell would probably be my first choice depending on who we are playing. Lacking mobility. And Dougie Hill has been excellent since he joined. Wins so many last ditch tackles.

I honestly don't know who my 1st choice team would be just now.

I was thinking the same yesterday, the midfield an strikers should pretty much pick themselves but JM has assembled a very good defence and it will be difficult to drop two of six.
