Just wondering who you would prefer and for what reasons.
Myself i think it a hard choice as the doc is proven at this level but smith has age on his side and also has been successful with us in the past. Or maybe someone else hmm what do u think???[/b] _________________ as we wheel the wheel barrow |

Both strikers offer plenty and I'd be equally happy with either of them.
If I had to make a choice, then I'd go for Kevin - youth, popular with the fans, got potential, he'll have a full pre-season so should be really fit for the season.
Its a 50.1 /49.9 vote in favour of Kev!
However, I'll repeat, be mpre than happy with either striker.
There isn't any A N Other out there (that the club could afford) that I'd want at present. _________________ A proud member of the 45. Saor Alba. |

I think either of them would score enough goals, but it's Kevin Smith for me. He knows how we play and knows the players. He has also proved he is a goalscorer. He's got no turn of pace, but he knows where the goal is, gets in good positions, and is reasonable at holding the ball up.
Kenny Deuchar is a decent, old fashioned centre forward. He would score a barrowload if we had a couple of decent wingers getting to the by line and pinging in crosses. _________________ This is the year we win the Play-offs. |

I'm not having a go at JM, but is his scouting limited too much? Remember when John Sutton came up from England and tore this Division up. There are no other options that are available up here, but that isn't to say there aren't players available South of the border. |

I think those players that we got were more to do with the agent we were dealing with at the time rather than our scouting. |

Don't know why you have 'other' as an option, it's not like Smith and Deuchar are the two best strikers on the planet.
Out of the two, agree with most, while the doc is proven and may be the better 'short term' option.... Smith has age on his side and has plenty improvement in him so I wouldn't complain with either |

I would take either but I think Smith would score more. _________________ Goal Count 10/11

John Sutton was identified during a bounce game organised for players out of contract. The game was played at New Douglas Park but organsied mainly by the Rovers board (McGowan etc.). Great idea but re-locating players from England now might be just out of our reach financially, players down south would want ridiculous money to move here. Ross County lost out on a player this summer as non-league Crawley Town offered more cash. |

I also would be happy with either player. I voted for Smith though for the reason we can cash in later when he moves on to bigger things. |

I get the impression McGlynn could get Smith providing United hold on to their existing strikers but sensibly he is holding out to see what Deuchar's situation is. McGlynn's preference is probably Deuchar but my preference would be Smith. I would go with Smith simply because we could take him full time and he would be more reliable than a busy doctor. Imagine we had another fixture pile-up like last season, I doubt Deuchar could guarantee his availability for games on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday. Either player could get 10 or more goals for us next season and I would be happy with either but it's Smith for me. |

was speaking to one of the guys that drinks in the pub on Thursday night about this. hes a big United fan - He reckons that their main concern will be hanging on to the majority of their squad, until they find out whats happening with their bigger players. He was concerned that there have been rumours surrounding both Goodwillie and Daly, as well as a few of the midfielders being linked with clubs south of the border. He reckons no-one will be released until they no what is happening with them. |
