Quickly after Grant Murray opened the scoring in a spectacular fashion on Saturday, me and my friend were having a discussion over which goal was better: Craig Dargo's lob or Murray's volley. We both agreed that Murray's goal was probably bigger for us in that (if the result went our way) we would go top of the league. Furthermore, it is a rarity to see such a goal from a defender.
So, over to everyone else: which did you prefer?
Hopefully video footage will become available soon to help in the discussion |

I didn't see the Dargo goal in person so I'm going to go with Grant Murrays'.
I'll never forget that goal or the celebrations that followed it _________________ RAITH ROVERS VIDEOS

Well, Dargo's goal can be found here, at around the 1:34 mark.
Having only seen Murray's once, at the time, I think I've got to come down on the side of the 2009 goal. |

Weve scored some pretty awsome goals over the last few seasons.
What about that 30 yard screamer or 40 yard lob last season.
Murrays goal was fantastic and it set us up to win the game, but there have been others equally as good as the two you mention.
However of the two, i would go for Grants goal as it meant more for the game in question. |

I probably should have mentioned I was referring to their significance as derby goals.
In reference to Gary Wales's 30-yarder, I'm still edging towards Murray's being better although that may change when I see highlights. |

Surprised I'm the only one to have voted for Dargo's goal. Short memories?
Right before Murray shot yesterday, I shouted: "Have a ping". In other words, I thought he had a reasonable chance to get a decent shot on target (didn't necessarily expect it to fly into the top corner!).
But for Dargo's goal, it looked like he was going nowhere, then before we know it the ball is half a mile up in the air and dropping into the net. All this while we're still celebrating the goal from a minute earlier.
Yesterday was brilliant, but I would still say I enjoyed Dargo's goal more.
Overall, I probably enjoyed yesterday's game/result better just because it was so unexpected. Thoroughly enjoyed both goals and McGurn's heroics. |

Murray's goal was a cracker, especially given he is a defender. Dargo's goal was different class though and the celebrations were just as wild, coming only a couple of minutes after Paul Browne put us ahead. _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

This is a hard one. I was at both games and the euphoria in the away stand for both goals was simply unreal.
1) We were playing towards our fans when Dargo scored. Something about that just made it sublime to watch.
2) There was that second of everyones heart stopping as the ball was lofted over the keeper, would it go in, would it go wide, would it end up on the roof of the net? No one knew where the ball would go. If you watch the video of Dargo's goal you can here the silence in the away stand for that 1 second before it hits the net then it's pure pandemonium.
3) The timing of our 2nd goal was perfect. We had not long scored the opener and we knew if we scored a 2nd goal it would be game over and it was.
HOWEVER I was sober and a young guy at that time whereas on Saturday I was fairly inebriated and knew more about the importance of getting a win after the cup game (plus the mild fact we could go top if we won). I had endured endless slaggings at work and stupidely browsed the Townies forum seeing us getting ripped left and right. We all wanted revenge and we got it....not only that we got it in style. For that reason Murray's goal wins it for me. The feelings I described above all came flooding back when I seen him line up for the shot. What happened next in the away stand will live with me for a long time.
God I wish I could re-live Saturday again |

Winning the 1st derby in 9 years is special and Murrays goal was a beaut that we'll talk about for probably many years to come.
That said Dargo's will always mean more to me because having witnessed Iain Munro's awful Rovers being gubbed 4 times by the Pars in 96-97 (the relegation from the Prem' season) and watching them gloating holding up signs with 4-0 on it it was imperative to us all that the next time we met in the league we got the better of them. Having drawn the opening two games and won the Millenium derby 3-0 at SP we had to draw or better at Eastend in that game to gain the bragging rights.
Dargo's superb goal put a tin lid on the occasion for me. _________________ Competitive goals: Vaughan 16, Easton 11, Hamilton 9, Smith 7, Stanton 7, Mullin 4, Connolly 3, O'Reilly 3, Rudden 3, S Brown 1, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Millen 1, Mitchell 1, Murray, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

murray's goal was special but agree that Dargo's was the better moment. the fact that they had beaten us 4 times before, the fact we needed to win to keep up our push for a play off at the time and the fact that we had scored a goal the previous minute to go 1-0 up made it particularly special.
that said, can't wait to see the highlights of saturdays game and murrays goal when it is up. _________________ I don't want to go to Idaho, I'd rather watch Christian Nade |

I think Dargo`s goal was better because at the time, Paul Browne had just opened the scoring shortly beforehand ( well, the ball hit off his foot and Mampey (Spelling?) had been wrong footed ) and we were still celebrating that goal.
If you look also at the angle the ball goes up into the air before coming down and bouncing into the roof of the net shows it was one of those rediculous shots that you hit once in a lifetime. Dargo could hit another 100 shots like that and none would go in.
Funny though, everytime i recall that goal, it gets further and futher towards the half way line when Dargo takes the shot |

I've got to go with Craig Dargo's goal it was at a tighter angle and he also didn't wait until the ball dropped down he just took it as it came to him, although I think both goals were brilliant.A little aside does any one remember Barry Wilsons two against them when they last beat us in the league,as I recall one of them was a contender for goal of the season. |

having looked at the videos of both now, both craking goals but still think Dargo's is the more memorable goal of the two _________________ I don't want to go to Idaho, I'd rather watch Christian Nade |

His first goal was a peach. See it here:

But stop watching this clip around the 2 minute mark.
Edit: Also, I believe they've actually beaten us four times in the league since that game. |
