8 of the 9 second placed teams from the groups will make the Play-Offs, the second placed teams in groups 1-8 will lose the points and goals they gained against the teams at the bottom of their respective groups, to make up for our group which only has 5 teams instead of 6.
This is how all the second placed teams look as of now, with their points and goals removed from the games against bottom place.
Hungary
Played: 7
GD: +1
Points: 7
3 games to go
Greece
Played: 7
GD: +3
Points: 10
3 games to go (Including bottom place)
Northern Ireland
Played: 8
GD: -1
Points: 8
2 games to go
Russia
Played: 7
GD: +8
Points: 11
3 games to go
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Played: 7
GD: +8
Points: 9
3 games to go
Croatia
Played: 8
GD: +3
Points: 11
2 games to go
France
Played: 7
GD: +1
Points: 11
3 games to go (Including bottom place)
Republic of Ireland
Played: 8
GD: 0
Points: 10
2 games to go
And how Scotland look:
Scotland
Played: 7
GD: -4
Points: 10
1 game to go
It's not looking very good for us, the only team i can see us having a chance of beating to the Play-Offs is Hungary. Their remaining matches include Portugal (home and away) and Denmark away.
So whats the verdict, will we make the Play-Offs? |

I dont think so but we can get a bit of pride back and be ready for the Euros, we need to play like we did against Macedonia second half yesterday and keep it going. _________________ Goal Count 10/11

Here is how the next wee while will go internationally......
We will get pumped by the dutch, rendering any what ifs as being meaningless. George Burley will step down under mutual agreement (i.e he will be sacked, but he will keep face this way so he can manage at a more suitable level for him. Brian Reid's replacement back at Ayr United when they are relegated).
Then we get in a manger who doesn't alienate the best striker we have in the country as well as one who knows how to put the best available team on the park. I would suggest Graeme Sounness, but due to his wee fall outs with the thick blazer brigade, sorry SFA, it won't happen. He wouldn't take the crap that Scotland managers and fans have had to put up with by old firm players only ever being fit enough to play for their clubs......
We will hopefully get a half decent draw for the Euros for once, despite us dropping into pot 3 for the group draws. We will get to the next Euro Finals, as we will have someone up front who could score goals, i.e Kris Boyd. That as opposed to now when we have a headless chicken who couldnt find the goals with a map and compass Canny Miller.
And all will be well again with the Scotland squad. _________________ No no no no ma wee laddie. |

Boyd is not even close to the best striker in the country, he would be in my squad but he would not start, ever except pehaps against teams like the Faroes or Albania etc...
However I agree Burley will step down as the boss but who we get in is anyones guess, I personally dont want McGhee. Would someone like Moyes do it part time? _________________ Goal Count 10/11

Sounness didn't get it, officially, because he wasn't willing to live in Scotland - but I hope it was actually because of his poor track record and the fact that the majority of us don't like him. I really wouldn't want him for loads of reasons. Strachan, Levein or Stuart Baxter. As for McGhee, that terrifies me and I hope it never happens. He's never done anything.
I expect we'll lose by 2 or 3 on Wednesday, but it wouldn't matter because I doubt that 13 points would get us through. I'm more concerned about our ranking for the next draw. |

scotland as usual so close but never quitew make it, i think scotland will draw against the dutch on wed + fail to make play-offs, burley will resign immediately, next manager- ally mcoist, reason being served as national assistant for a few years now, would also put roy aitken in back room staff, both good motivators |

Och we'll fail spectacularly as usual, Burley will get a golden handshake for his sterling work and the managerial roundabout will start up again - I would have Strachan but have a feeling he wouldnae be interested after being snubbed last time |

Am I being dense here?
All the talk is that Scotland MUST beat the Dutch. However, looking at what Kilgour posted above, even if we get beat we could still get one of the play-off spots if Hungary fail to win any of their games.
If we got one point then hungary could win one game and we could still qualify (considering two of their three are against Portugal, this is quite likely).
Am I missing something obvious? |

Ok, so having looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA) it seems as if we could still qualify if we loose, but only if Hungary and Portugal draw their two games against each other and Hungary lose their remaining game against Denmark.
Or, we could beat the group 3 runners up if Slovakia win all of their games and the games which NI, Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic play against each other are all draws (in which case the runner up would also be on 9 points.)
With the way the games fall in the other groups I think that all the other runners up will have more than ten points (after removing points gained against the bottom team).
As the above scenarios are pretty unlikely and getting a draw won't really help us, I now see why we really need to win!
Can't see it happening unfortunately...... |

You've just got to look back to the Norway home game, which should've been 3 points, instead we got 1 |
