Went for Grant Murray for the simple fact Paul Smith doesn't want the job & Murray would probably be my 2nd choice. |

I would go for Paul Hartley, up and coming new on the blocks, excellent 1st season in charge, with some fresh ideas, and would have plenty of contacts in the game. |

That would be who I would want. In an ideal world anyway - in the real world it will be somebody cheaper (i.e. an internal appointment, probably Bert.) _________________ "I'd much rather be playing Bayern Munich and be competitive for thirty minutes, than murdering Stockport 8-0 in the Freight Paint-Rolling Trophy or whatever it's called." |

Hartley is on a two year deal effectively ruling him out. Cameron is on a one year deal so compensation will be a sticking point there. The courier article only furthers the view we'll be recruiting Grant Murray from within. |

If we were in a position to pay compensation I'd have liked us to go for Sheerin. However I realise that is not likely to be the case and for me an internal promotion is the logical thing to do, especially if we can hold onto Smith in some capacity. I wonder if Craig Ireland, the under 19s coach may be a candidate? _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

Can't be sure but I think I read on p&b we didn't get compensation as we didn't want to stand in his way.
Could be we wanted to keep in good with the jambos so we keep getting loan players. |

Matthew Elder said on twitter we'll get non-footballing compensation. That'll probably mean loan players.
In other news, daily record is saying Brian Reid is a front-runner for the job. No, Brian, just no. Would be dead against that. His former team finished behind us every season he was in charge, and at times held significant leads over us which were squandered at key times. Even new Ayr manager seemed to take pops at him in his press conference.
Would far rather see Bert, or ideally Cameron, as manager. |

Personally, i would like to see smith and murray work together. Murray as manager and smith as assistant.
Lets face it, were short of money so this is the ideal situation and Murray can learn his managerial trade from Smith. An internal appointment is looking increasingly like it will be the way forward. However, I just have a gut feeling that we'd be better appointing Baresi than Murray if we do go that way. My sole reason for this is that Bert has played with McGlynn/Jefferies/Levein for most of his career, and therefore will quite possibly have the same style and tactics as the rest of the Hearts contingent. Laurie however may have a slightly different style, which could just help us develop more of a passing game rather than remain a team of long-ball merchants - which was my one criticism of McGlynn so I think this might be a good way/time to try a new style. _________________ "I'd much rather be playing Bayern Munich and be competitive for thirty minutes, than murdering Stockport 8-0 in the Freight Paint-Rolling Trophy or whatever it's called." |
