Lets face it, were short of money so this is the ideal situation and Murray can learn his managerial trade from Smith. An old bird teaching an new manager. |
An internal appointment is looking increasingly like it will be the way forward. However, I just have a gut feeling that we'd be better appointing Baresi than Murray if we do go that way. My sole reason for this is that Bert has played with McGlynn/Jefferies/Levein for most of his career, and therefore will quite possibly have the same style and tactics as the rest of the Hearts contingent. Laurie however may have a slightly different style, which could just help us develop more of a passing game rather than remain a team of long-ball merchants - which was my one criticism of McGlynn so I think this might be a good way/time to try a new style. |
I think Marko, what is more important is whoever is appointed must have the ability to stamp his own Personality on the game and team.
Laurie is one hell of a nice guy which may be his downfall. Any manager has to be tough and show strength. I am not convinced Laurie has that strength just yet. Murray comes accross to me as his own man which in my opinion is his strength. With a little guidance from Paul Smith as his assistant i see lot of plus points the team and club needs. _________________ now enjoying my fishing time, at peace with nature. but being a avid radio ham my global contacts have increased. any hams around call me lz2csk on 14200 or their aboyuts |

Grant murray WILL be appointed the new manager............this comes from the sunday post.
It states that he has been given "the nod" over other interested parties.
His Number two will be paul smith.
If this (and it seems to be the case)is what happens, has the board simply gone for the cheapest option.............or is this our "dream team"? _________________ Born a Rover Live a Rover Die a Rover |

Thats the duo i suggested so no complaints from me, and as you say Quinnie he appears to have the support of the dressing room which is a very important factor.
Cuparman and Vinnie, on paper this may appear to be the cheap option. but i have a gut feeling maybe J.McG gave a positive indication to this duo which is good enough for me.
Anyways, jumping the gun on this and if its true, congratulations to Grant and Paul and good luck to you both. _________________ now enjoying my fishing time, at peace with nature. but being a avid radio ham my global contacts have increased. any hams around call me lz2csk on 14200 or their aboyuts |

I guess he will probably be a "player manager" as well.
Whether its the cheap option or not ........we will only find out at the end of next season.
What I liked about Cameron is that he played at a high level.(grant has'nt)
He has managerial experience (ok,just 1 year) Grant hasnae, and the fact he had his team playing good football and they walked the league.....which grant has'nt.
Results will tell if we have a bargain or not but at least grant wont have to do much to be classed as a success this coming year..........mid table and round 2 of each of the cup comps....job done.
CE................forgive me if I dont trust your gut feelings _________________ Born a Rover Live a Rover Die a Rover |

It's hardly a cheap option. I'd imagine that Grant Murray would probably be on more than John Mcglynn was. In football players tend to be higher paid than their managers. |

If he has the job good luck to him , we will get behind him .
I was hopping the B.O.D would have been more aventrous , looked for a manager with style, vision and panache , went for a manager with a bit of track record in coaching or managment .
To go with a guy with no coaching experience , managment or man managment could be a backword step .
I thought we had progressed futher than this .
everyone need there chance and good luck to the guy , i just feel this is not in the best interests of the club , and is a rushed, knee jerk appointment
yes it is the cheep option .
Who will take charge of the acadamy now, as this is a bit of a big ask for a brand new manager to take on as well as first team dutys . |

Agree Bigeein, typical Rovers board going for the cheaper option when we needed a young attack minded manager with vision. |

Murray has played in the premier league for most of his career. Ok he didn't scale the heights of Cameron but he's still played at a pretty high level by Scottish standards. Not convinced the level you play at has much to do with how good a manager you are anyway eg Mourinho, Wenger or even McGlynn. _________________ If I were a fighter I'd probably kick your ass. |

OK cuperman i will forgive you But this time i may be right?? Didnt J.McG say in an interview something about Grant taking his coaching badges and could make the grade as a manager.
I would rather the term "An economic appointment" has been used rather than a cheap option. No one can tell how good or bad Grant will be until we see his team and how they play.
If this duo is confirmed i would hope PS will be able to impart his knowledge to Grant and that together they can take up from where JM left off. No one can tell how this appointment will work out until a few results are in. _________________ now enjoying my fishing time, at peace with nature. but being a avid radio ham my global contacts have increased. any hams around call me lz2csk on 14200 or their aboyuts |

Of course its the cheap option. We ain`t forking out compo for somebody else in a job and were not forking out to bring someone new in.Murray is already on the books and a wee sweetner given for taking on the extra burden of managers job wont break Rovers budget. As for him being on more than McGlynn, your having a giraffe, its the Rovers were talking about here.
Tam,get a grip. Our club has no money so really dont know what your expecting _________________ THERES FIVE OF ME |

We've no idea what type of football Murray will bring along. Lets not tar the board who at the moment aren't doing anything wrong at all compared to last preseason. |

IF this is our management team then it is maybe the cheap option but doubt it is anywhere near the worst option.
I would of liked to see new blood brought in with Smith or Murray as No.2 but if we can't afford it (or, even better, the extra money goes into improving the squad) then it could work out for the best... |
