When i got up this morning i switched on sky sports news insted of bbc news for a change .

While i was getting ready for work there was a small news snipit talking about how german clubs have a standing area at grounds with some sort of barrier system , thay also mestioned that scottish clubs were looking at this being rolled out in scotland to encrouage fans back to grounds .

Can anyone shed any light on the subject ,

i for one would love to see a return to the terrece, " down with the frozen plastic seat " a total atmosphere killer . It was always a buzz standing in a crowd and i miss that part of being a fan .

I want the terrece back but to keep everyone happy i have went for a mixture of both all seater and terrece.

opinions and disscussions , please indecate which way you voted and for what reason

I much prefer standing at the football but that may just be conditioning.
Will be interesting to see what younger/more recent supporters make of the whole standing/sitting debate.

My preference is standing but I think it's best to have both, that way everyone is happy.

I voted for a mix of both as I can see both sides of the argument, however my one question is how likely would this be to ever happen? I don't mean in terms of getting approval because that seems to be a possibility, I mean more in terms of the costs/logistics of redesigning an area of the ground to accomodate those wishing to stand.

Behind the goals would need the seats ripped out and metal support things installed (I can't think what they are actually called,) whilst the Railway stand would need even more expensive redevelopment because the current front is way too steep to just stand on, with or without rests being fitted.

Does anybody have any idea of costs as to whether or not this would be worth it? There are also other issues - the people that want standing probably mostly already go and sit (even if it is reluctantly) so it would be a big outlay for what might not see that many additional punters guaranteed to come through the gates.

We have tried other initiatives over the years that ended up losing the club money, and this could well be a speculative gamble for what might end up being another one.

I like the idea that the standing areas have seats built into them along with the good old crush barriers, just like these:

I've never understood why we dont open the area behind the dugouts for standing. It can't take much to develop that, surely?

The terracing behind the dugouts would have to be raised as the only decent view from there at the moment is from the top step,anything below is obscured by the dugouts.

I prefer standing at games personally, however..

I dont think it will bring people rushing back to football, various arguments on the radio suggest it might actually cost MORE to gain entry to these areas.

I am also sceptical due to the fact that this will cost money to implement - money that Raith Rovers (and many other clubs) dont actually have. Will clubs see enough success to get that investment back?

In principal I am for anything that enhances the enjoyment and experience of the football supporter, just dont know if it makes sense in the current climate.

also some grate comments aswell , you guys are right,, to convert to standing areas is an expence that we cannot afford at the moment .

However there is a possibility that this idea could be adopted on the railway stand side ,it may be that there is other plans for that area of the ground as we have herd from recent articals in the F.F.P etc . Time will tell wheather this happens or not
