However there is a possibility that this idea could be adopted on the railway stand side ,it may be that there is other plans for that area of the ground as we have herd from recent articals in the F.F.P etc . Time will tell wheather this happens or not

looks like a big thumbs down for allseater

railway stand earmarked for hospitality at no cost to the club , however now standing areas has become a possibility maybe they could alter the plans accordingly and turn into a safe standing terrace .

Would our clubs charge less for a ticket to the standing section? I doubt it. I believe the standing tickets are a lot less in Germany.

I think a read that Gladbach has a population of around 250,000 similar to a place like Aberdeen. The Germans get about 50 odd thousand attendances, Aberdeen struggle to get 8000 at times.

Copied and pasted from Borussia Dortmunds official history of the Signal Iduna Park- the new name for the previous Westfalenstadion built for the World Cup in 1974. Remember Scotland v Zaire, folks? Amazingly there are nearly 24,500 standing places! Total capacity 80,552. The largest in dear old Deutschland.

The spectators experienced the Westfalen Stadium in its original state for 18 years, until 1992. Overall there were drastic changes in the next five years. In 1992, the capacity decreased to 42.800 spectators due to the conversion of the North stand standing places into seating. Just three years later, within "Extension Phase One", the West and East Stands were enlarged by 6.000 seats each. The capacity increased to 68.600 in the second phase extension of 1999. The South Stands (south stand), the epicenter of Dortmund's football enthusiasm, which enlarged to 24.454 places and became Europe's largest stadium standing area. The standing places convert to seats for international matches.

I was at the game so remember the Scotland v Zaire game well .Fortunate to have been at the ground twice, once as the Westfalon and once as the Signal Iduna Park however it was for yet another Scotland game so there was no standing(officially). Some atmosphere nonetheless

Dortmund only charge 10 euros for a ticket for the terracing.

Just had a thought on the standing area in Dortmund. More can stand there than could fill any stadium in Scotland, bar the three 'biggies' in Glasgow. Dortmund when I stayed there (for one year - 30 years ago!) had a population equal to or a bit less than Glasgow at the time. There again there is only one team representing the city at the top level, so it's easy to see why they get big crowds. 'Nuff said! Wink

The only way you will get fans back to the matches is by cutting the prices and providing better entertainment than whats on offer just now.Folk wont come back just because they are getting to stand on a terracing again thats for sure. Why this clamour for terracing again when all thats needed is for the stewards and police to show commonsense at certain games with those who do want to stand in a stand.

beat me to it ,theres so much more wrong with the game than introducing terracing .prices, entertainment value, playing in poor weather, league format and so on and so on .take boxing day ,no or very little public transport yet we are away to ayr . like sow ,introducing terracing will not bring supporters flocking back to games

this i do disagree with .police and stewards are doing their job ,standing is not permitted in an all seater stadium and if they were seen to be ignoring this it could result in a fine for a club or ground closure . why is it that our own supporters are content sitting at starks park but they expect to stand at away games and complain when stewards and police tell them to sit down?

I respect what you are saying jay p but i dissagree with it . If you have ever attended an S.P.L game you will find there is large sections of the crowd standing for 90 minutes . In no way am i content with the sit down shut up and watch the game attiatude at starks park . However i will endure the pain ( pilles) Very Happy Shocked to watch my team play .

When i started the thread it was purly out of intrest to see what peeps feelings were on it, as i had seen a report on sky sports news about safe standing areas in gremany and it being rolled out in scotland . People are right in what thay say though . there is far bigger fish to fry when it comes to scottish football

As for supporters complaining about awey games i think that is largly down jobs worth power freaks in high viz jackets and not the common supporter . At the end of the day you have payed to get in , as long as you are not casing trouble you should be alowed to sit or stand .

If you were at starks park back in the terreceing days you would have to agree with me that the atmosphere was alot better all be it was a bit rough and ready . Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

not sure what part your disagreeing with bigeein .I have attended an SPL game and aware there is large sections of the crowd standing but it does not stop the fact that clubs can be fined and grounds can be closed because of it .its just never happened.

its not , its about them doing the job their paid to do .no doubt some can go about it in a better manner .not being permitted to stand in an all seater stadium is no different to not being allowed to smoke irrespective of paiyment , its against the law
