| FUNDRAISING GROUP IS IT A GOOD IDEA |

I mentioned on another thread about raith fans starting a fundraising group where the sole intention is to raise funds all year round for the football club.This could be functions,car boot sales etc etc and in doing this the club will get a steady stream of money coming in throughout the year which could help during the tough times.I couldnt get involved as i have enough on my plate but i am sure theres plenty rovers fans out there who can.Those that have internet access and those who dont but have great ideas about the way forward with this.I may be talking rubbish but this could be an idea that the new fans rep may want to get involved with aswell.Just an idea

Could this not be something the Raith Trust could take on? If necessary co-opt volunteers onto the committee and take it from there?

Of course they could as theres a few committee members who post on here so i am sure if they can do it then they will.If no why doesnt someone else take it on and speak to the club about it.There is plenty folk on here who have great ideas but sometimes it never gets further than an idea.

| There used to be a fundraising group years ago.In the first instance there were something like 20+ in the group,intially very enthusiastic but it wasn`t before long they started dropping like flies and ended up with about half a dozen before it eventually disbanded |

| All for it personally. Think the club needs it, it will raise awareness in the community and will hopefully attract more people into the cause. I think that it would be fantastic if the fans gave something to the club to tide them over during these periods: I know it is an expensive time of the year for many, and that people might think the football is expensive enough already which may be a problem. However, I still think that with a core group it could do well. |

Since the takeover (not sure what the inverted commas are about!) the supporters groups have invested in the club each year. The amount varies each year depending on the fundraising activities which take place, off the top of my head I'd say the figure is between £15k and £20k each year.
Re the fundraising group: the Trust invited proposals to a "dragon's den" process a couple of years ago where we would provide the capital for fundraising events, and it's fair to say that we weren't flooded with proposals. I also remember the group that was set up 8-10 years ago (I think it's the same one you refer to Vinnie) that started off with a lot of energy but quickly faded away - I think the problem was that there was too much talk and not enough action, and "the doing" fell on the same small group of people. Lots of people have good ideas, but for whatever reason don't want to implement them themselves. To be honest this thread is following the same pattern - a good idea which people want someone else to take on!

Agree.
It would be interesting to see how many who think the suggestion of a fans fund raising group is a good idea are actually willing to get involved |

I think its up to individual fans and groups of Rovers friends to also add to the fund raising set of teams NOT just the "usual" great band of fans fund raising i.e., Quinny and his fantastic team
For example Stephen and his cards is a great idea and already a success as he's run out of cards.
The history of the original fans fund raising committee: I was one of a good number of fans who started and the biggest problem was we didn't have cash to start the various good ideas and projects. These fans were full of great intentions, attended many meetings, don't forget that.
We did get cash from the club for the first Classic Top (white with two blue hoops) but all the money raised went straight back to the club. It was desperate times back then as well.
However, we did want to continue the RRFC Classic Top range and the second one was funded (The Silver Lion) and it was a great success but only because a wonderful fan funded it. We gave the cash back quickly and the profit raised went towards the next classic top the 1970s Blue strip. Again this was part funded by the Raith Supporters Trust. Again this was repaid to the Trust and we have some cash to we hope fund the next Classic Top and eventually the profits will be channeled through the Trust which eventually gets into the club.
Unfortunately we have only managed to sell 50% of the 1970s blue top so far. So to make the Classic Top fund raising initiative a success we need fans to purchase, just like all the great ideas we need Rovers fans to purchase goods or attend functions, etc.
As a last few words, there is some great ideas out there in the Rovers family BUT there is little point in voicing them unless YOU lead them yourselves. Do not expect others to to do the work.

The group you talk of was known as the Commercial Committee, and as you rightly say, it started off with a healthy number of people who attended meetings regularly when ideas were being talked about, but when the time came to put the ideas into action they disappeared faster than snaw aff a dyke.
The only real idea that came to fruition was a Coca Cola Cup night in the 200 Club when we showed the final in full and even had a half-time break wi' pies, bovril and stovies. The place was packed and could have sold out twice over.
The commercial committee died out when only 3 people, me, John Drysdale and A.N Other showed up for what was the final meeting in the Novar Bar.
If somebody wants to start up something similar it would be great, but these things tend to attract people who say they are interested in helping when in actual fact they're only there to find out what's going on, and when it comes to getting things done, they disappear and you're left with the same handful of people every time.

Hats off to you Tam but not wanting you to take this the wrong way.It seems a long drawn out affair before the club sees any profit from this scheme if your continually using any profit from one top to fund the next.Its not a steady stream of cash to the club
