The Geordie Munro in the style of the Dad's Army tune pre match song. What should be done?
1. Keep it as it is.

2. Rerecord it to bring it up to date and maybe earn the club a few quid in the process.

This old dirge which is laughed at by opposition fans in my opinion needs to be rerecorded to make it more contemporary. Just think, the Rovers could also make money out of this by releasing it on cd. The guys at Adam Smith who do the TV footage would jump at the idea of doing this with Dennis Alexander.

Whenever I hear this on a Saturday, it makes me cringe and think of the Dad's Army theme tune. I'm sure 'our song' was the B side to that! Wink

Before the usual mob (you know who you are) shoot me down and send round the pitch forks and torches which usually happens when you make statements without your Raith tinted glasses on, this is just a bit of light hearted discussion, and not a threat to bring Anelka back or knock down Starks Park Rolling Eyes .

This was being discussed in another thread, but I think it needs a vote on the issue to gauge the feeling of posters on this site.

1. (and) maybe 2.

The song is our our own individual 'original' anthem. Personally, I love the song and it holds many happy memories for me.

I'm not against your opinion in any way, we all have one and should be free to express it....

Would Liverpool want YNWA jazzed up? Or maybe Hearts fans would like a dance version of 'Hearts, glorious Hearts'?
I doubt it, tradition and history has to play a large part in this issue too?

I like it and I enjoy singing it at the games. Like StarksBarmy mentioned it holds some happy memories. Try and imagine if we had won that semi final against United and 8000 Rovers fans belted that out, it would of had the hairs on the back of your neck standing at full attention.

The problem is it's nearly impossibly for people to sing it in time with the music at home games so I'd say ditch playing the song and just let the fans belt it out when they see fit.

I love it being sung by the fans, but I do agree the tannoy version could do a bit of work.

The auld dear has a version by a chap called Calum Kennedy that's on a CD she got for her birthday that's pretty good. I think it's the version they played at Hampden. I quite like that.

Why not use the version that's on the Singing the Blues tape.

I vote no. 2

Although I do like it as it is original and part of the club's history, I do think we should make a better one, it's getting embarasing now the old one.
We could do something like the Scotland game vs Ukrain where Runrig made an up-to-date Loch Lomong, or the last one being vs Norway, another I Have a Dream. I think it is better than the originals as it has the thousands fans in it doing their bit.
We could do it against the Townies for the crowd, the more the better. Get a band/singer willing to do it (could be a Rock The Rovers band maybee?) and hear the fans singing a good bit in it aswell. Sell it on CD or iTunes ect. and make a good bit cash for the youth teams ect.

Thoughts?
Confused

The version of Geordie Munro used at Hampden for the Semi is ten times better than the version we use at our home games. The easiest thing to do would be to get Gordon Adamson a copy of that but maybe having a local band do a revamp of Geordie Munro would be better. I occasionally go to see Blackburn Rovers and they always played a dusty old version of The Wild Rover before kick-off but then they got a local band to revamp the song and make it more relevant to the club. The fans love it, they clap and sing along to it and the band(Northern Line) got some good publicity. Singing the Blues was a great Christmas stocking filler in 1992, maybe Mr Quinn can see if any of the bands at Rock the Rovers would be interested in doing something similar. I know there is a Rock the Rovers CD but i'm thinking more about Rovers songs.

I have come to a dead end trying to find out about our song Geordie Munro, all I have discovered is that it was written by David Haggart.
Can anyone shed some light on the composer, when it was written and why it references Kirkcaldy?

Some old fan talk names there too - wasn't Goldmember eventually banned?

As for GM - it is Rovers anthem but why Idaho other than poetic license I have no idea what the link is between that state and Kirkcaldy - there is a Kirkcaldy just north of Idaho in Manitoba - and right a bit Very Happy

I have always loved the Alexander Brothers version, the way it should be. Very Happy
