I see John Sim is stepping down as chairman and being replaced by Steven MacDonald. Recent publicity aside I would like to applaud John Sim for getting the club on to a more stable business footing and I wish Steven continued success as the new Chairman.
Can't help but think that John's decision has been precipitated by recent publicity. I think he has taken the action he felt needed to be taken in an effort to draw a line under the whole Goodwillie affair. A thoroughly decent man in my opinion. Always had a kind word and a welcoming smile any time I have ever met him. |

Aye KR I agree with all you say. On the face of it, it looks a good move.
However, an interesting question might be, "What has happened to John's generous loans to the club?" I am absolutely sure John is an upstanding man of integrity, but he who holds the purse strings tends to set the agenda? |

Good to see the club moving forward in a positive direction in many ways.
New chairman, new shirt sponsor from people who care about the club and the supporters, fans director, fans panel - all good moves.
Hopefully we can finish the season strongly and see where it takes us. |

I've seen many chairmen come and go over the last 60 plus years from Jimmy Gourlay to the present day and the vast majority bar one or two (literally, I think of McGowan and Smith) have all been dyed in the wool Rovers daft.
It would therefore be churlish not to wish the new chairman all the very best for his tenure in the chair and hope he is able to steer the club back in the right direction despite recent events. I'm well aware of him being associated with the infamous vote but we have to try to move forward with whatever that might entail. It's either that or stagnate or regress.
I'd also thank all past chairmen irrespective of how good or poor for their efforts whilst holding the tiller in running the club. Likewise every director.
Without their input the club may well have folded years ago. It's come too close a couple of times. Reclaim the Rovers time and the Shilling Fund in the Great Depression years in the 1930's. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Appointing a Chairman who was one of the Fab Four responsible for the January deadline day signing debacle was not the forward thinking move I was hoping for.
The February announcement intimated board expansion but surely those responsible for the decision, which has to be a factor in our untimely slump in form, need to do the honourable thing.
Yesterdays announcement leads me to believe that nothing will change and as a club we are only heading in one direction.
To the board of directors- please prove me wrong. |

I totally agree. I don't see mr Macdonald as a forward step. |

The basic fact is that it is a lot to do with money.
It always has been so, even going back over a hundred years ago.
Successful businessmen, (for that's what it was until recent times) were invited on to the local football club's board because of their business acumen and cash input when required. They were usually local and supporters of the club. I'm sure that there would be a large number of supporters who are/were more than able to run a club, making and implementing decisions but they lacked spare funds to put in whenever they may be required or to act as guarantors to the bank.

What were you hoping for?

Does that include the management team and CEO? Who are equally culpable

And that direction is what?

Sim is the money man. Sim cannot walk away from that investment. At the time of the embarrassing debacle around a signing, it was intimated that Sim would take a back seat, and a lot of us said he would most likely leave a proxy on the board to look after his interests. Perhaps McDonald IS that proxy. I still expect the others involved however will step down when others are brought on to the board.
As one of the vocal folk severely swearyworded off at the club for the issues, I am happy enough for this to happen, and feel we need to now move on.
Board changes are happening, and it is likely McGlynn will be doon the road.
These things say to me , moving on. |

Mr Sim has certainly answered the question I posed on this thread last weekend with his public statement today.
Years and years of constant and unflinching support of Raith Rovers and now I’m told to pick one of the other 41.
I accept that he who pays the piper calls the tune but doesn’t the” Raith Rovers family” extend beyond just one man.
At least I now know what six decades of my supporting the club means to him. |

Cap fits both ways, you might not be happy with things the owner says or decisions the club makes but you can still choose to support the team. Continued support of the club doesn’t mean you automatically hold the same views as one or two individuals. As you say, the Raith Rovers family extends far beyond the boardroom and that the club was here long before any of us were and (hopefully) be going strong once we are all gone.
*I fully understand that going along to Bayview every 2nd weekend is a scary thought so if you are choosing, maybe Kelty a decent shout? |
