As you can see I live in the Republic of Ireland at the moment so I dont get accross the water very often however I do have one or two ideas for raising money for RRFC.Over here we have a system of fund raising called penny bank it works as follows,In January you collect a card from the church sports club etc its divided into 48 weeks every week you put in what you want from say 1 euro upwards you cannot withdraw any money from this account during the year.In the 1st week of December you get back whatever you put in during the year however the interest that the money has earned goes to the church sports club ect.Its a great way to save for xmas and the club benifits as well put it this way if you put in the price of a pint E4.00 over here each week that would amount to E192 at the end of the year the interest on that amount would be E9.60 that the club would get I dont know if the system works legally in the UK,just to say the penny bank where the wife works earned the local sports club E36000 last year _________________ Raith Rovers 7 Queen of the South 2 1967 those were the days |

This sounds like a fantastic idea.
Where would we go to find out if this is a go-er, or not?
Would a normal bank be the place, or would we need PO savings or similar? _________________ We R The RR The RRFC |

Any Bank would be willing to take this on so in a way you have all the aces in your pocket .The bank Manager or someone of standing in the community would be the only signatory who could withdraw the funds as per each persons card and issue them with cheques at the end of the year .You would need someone to give out cards and to sign people up you could also have agents in pubs clubs shops offices any work place really who collects money each week say and then deposits the money into the bank. just for your interest as of today my wife and I have E790 00 in our Penny Bank account and we also have two other accounts for our son and daughter with E390 00 in each, this Penny Bank is run by the local church and will benifit from the interest at the end of the year, and we dont even belong to the church,so come Xmas we re sorted _________________ Raith Rovers 7 Queen of the South 2 1967 those were the days |

I really think this is a great idea, and could possibly be a great wee earner for the club. The only problem would be people to start up and run this collecting the money etc. _________________ We R The RR The RRFC |

IRISH ROVER after speaking to you today about this idea and other crazy fundraising especially THE SNAKE i have come to conclusion you are a GENIUS.Alright slightly flawed as you support the rovers like us but a genius aw the same. This penny bank idea if done properly is a winner and also there is some novelty value to it.Would a beer keg be ok for collecting cash or do you want something different if so am sure the fans will get something soon. p.s It was a pleasure to meet you today especially as you bought me a pint _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

I am not sure but i think the way irishrover was talking it was a beer keg or drum size that was gonna be used so it gets rolled out and rolled in every home game. Then there would be a major unveilling and count at the end of each season with it all going to raith.1p,2p,5p,10p,20p,50p,£1 and £2 coins all welcome but NO NOTES of any numeration. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE
