Abandoned: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-conference-league-plans-pulled-30160514 Quite right too!
Great point Wolfman Jack makes about the Champion's League youth games. Bullies are usually cowards though and the OF probably think their youngsters could never cut it at that level. If the OF want their youngsters exposed to tougher, more experienced men, then there was a huge opportunity there by proposing the Conference as a fairer, more inclusive and wider route to promotion for Highland and Lowland League clubs as well as for relegated League 2 clubs. Instead, they proposed to allow only one of the winners of those leagues to even get in, only a play-off for the non-colt winner and nothing for the 2nd placed non-colt side in any of the three leagues. They could have wooed lower-league clubs by writing in the incentive of automatic promotion for winners and play offs for 2nd - 4th in all three leagues. Maybe the OF forget that their vote is not worth forty lower-league votes, like it might be in business!
Wait for the backlash. Will they propose an exclusive reserve-league "by invitation only"? I.e. whichever clubs voted against them need not apply. Who knows, but I can't see them broadly consulting lower-league clubs, whatever they do next. |

Aye SG you bet they will.
Might the answer lie in making the top leagues bigger and distributing the money share fairer? Whilst also, re-introducing the reserve leagues with the finances to pay for this?
Do this and the Diddier teams will miraculously become less Diddy, and the quality of our game in this Country will rise.

Agree 100%, but, but but a bigger top league means no more four old firm games for the telly by the way, so that'll pure ruin Scottish football so it will. |
Have the OF give up 1.5% from the winner and 1% from second…use the money to change to a 10/10/10/20. Top three leagues promote/relegate top and bottom, playoffs with 9-4 and 2-3 first round to keep interest. Bottom league relegates two, they promote HL and LL champions. You’ve got pyramid movement, more teams, slightly fairer money, still have excitement and the HL attracts more teams. Might also convince them to rejigger the prize money more to reduce the difference between the levels. If HL and LL want to play colt teams (with no promotion) fine…but make the colts pay for the privilege. |

Other than the online campaign by fans which influenced clubs, this was about the OF teams and Hearts from last season in the Lowland League to the inclusion of Aberdeen colts.
Aberdeen baulked at the idea of forking out £400K for the privilege and sad no. _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |
