A little prior warning would have allowed our volunteers time to rescue many of the plants and bulbs. It would have enabled those who have scattered ashes time to prepare for the changes taking place.
There were plans to site portakabins in this area but I don’t think this is happening now. I hope that once the work is completed that it can be returned to its former glory perhaps including a garden of remembrance. |

A steel mesh cube filled with rocks which are stacked to provide a retaining wall, can often be seen on motorway embankments.

In addition to WJ's example they can often be found along water courses to reinforce the banks or to divert water flow. Also frequently found at the coast to counter coastal erosion along with riprap. A gabion is basically riprap in a steel cage as has been described by others above.

Bit in the programme about this maintenance work. Club were aware of the importance of this location and the earth removed is stored and will be returned to the site once the essential work to stop the subsidence issue is completed.
