Welcome aboard young man!

Obviously needs to settle in and get some time on the pitch before being assessed.

Can’t say his age and lack of experience isn’t a slight issue for me considering the options we have in central defence at this time but looking forward to seeing him play…

Another addition in a position where we are lacking options. He played 13 times in League 1 last season for Crewe, so certainly has first team experience at probably a higher level then we play at.

This is true but on the flip side, they barely won a game and conceded 83 league goals in the process.

Looking closer, O’Riordan made 13 appearances for Crewe last season (2 cup games)

In the 11 league games, they won 1 and lost 10, scored 7, conceded 25.

Crewe were close to the bottom of the league long before Connor made his debut, already on their way to relegation. Crewe'#s policy oif introducing young talent despite circumstances like that will hopefully stand us in good stead.

Looking even closer…

Conner played the full 90 minutes in 12 total matches, with a combined record of 3-0-9. He was subbed on late twice in losses…once while down 1:2 and then Crewe conceded another, and once while they were down 2:0 and then scored one to make it 2:1.

Crewe was miserablen League One last year, and seemed to be slightly better with Conner than without. Comments on his loan suggest he was not an every game starter this year, but an excellent prospect, so they want to accelerate his development by getting him competitive matches. Let’s also remember that Frankie was unable to make the starting lineup for Luton Town in both Leagues Two and One, thus being sent on loan twice, before joining us (and then Ayr).

Assuming numbers assigned mean something, he was 15 for Crewe this year, so expected to be a bench CB.

Here’s Crewe’s post on this move:

Connor O’Riordan has joined Raith Rovers on loan.

The homegrown defender has signed for the Scottish Championship club on a deal until January.

The 18-year-old, who joined the Alex as a Pre-Academy player, will go straight into Ian Murray’s squad for the visit of Dundee on Saturday.

The plan is for Connor, who is from Crewe, to gain more valuable experience of competitive men’s football to add to the 13 appearances he made for The Railwaymen last term.

The 6ft 4ins centre-half’s progress will be monitored by Alex coaching staff, who see this switch as part of his development towards becoming a first-team regular at Mornflake Stadium.

Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to wish Connor all the very best during his loan at Raith.”

Was very impressed with O'Riordan on Saturday. Looked very comfortable and composed for such a young lad.
