We have brought in three players this week.
All of them are young and just making their way in professional football.
Personally , it's great to watch emerging talent and I wish all three success at The Rovers.
Ryan Nolan has recovered from an ACL. Despite the awful experiences suffered our home-grown favourite , LV, in many cases an ACL injury does not recur and the injury stays in the past.
Another well-loved Rover, Regan Hendry, had a very fine season after recovering from an ACL injury. We are hoping for the same for both Vaughany (this time ) and Tom Lang.
I don't know for sure but suspect that Ryan will be introduced gradually to playing with us and will start on the bench.
Kieran and Kyle may be thrown straight into action!!
One final thought: I hope that the mindless idiots who barrack Dario shut up. Not only is it counter-productive with a confidence player but won't help the new guys settle in, if they
think that they can't afford to try moves that might not come off without being abused.

Well said Franco. It’s a new league season, a new regime and a mixture of new players and well kent faces. Let’s get right behind our team and give them all the encouragement we can. Good luck boys I’m sure you’ll give us your best efforts.

Observations on…

Defence:

Nolan appears a useable CB.

Dick appears potential cover at CB, or needs to be outright converted to CB, but will be less than fully effective for a while…and even then the result might not be great.

Masson is an unknown and untested asset at CB.

Nywenga and Young could potentially hold down LB while we converted Dick, but we don’t have any real feel for how effective they would be.

Millen is not an attacking RB.

We likely need at least one experienced CB to cover until Lang returns…

Midfield:

Brown hasn’t had the opportunity to play his more natural position of DM, we still wait to see those results.

Stanton doesn’t appear suited to the DM role.

Easton is off the boil, we need to see more to understand, but the formation isn’t suiting him right now.

Ross is better on the wing than midfield, but, we are heavy with wingers.

Arnott is being muzzled on the bench, and it will get worse when Spencer and Matthews return. He needs to be loaned, when they return, and played now.

Spencer would fill the DM role well, if he returns as before.

Matthews would work in the middle or the outside, if he returns as before.

Attackers:

Gullan, has been a wee bit of a disappointment, but needs more time to properly evaluate.

Vaughan is just what we need, if he can come back 100%.

Mitchell, looks very decent, if raw.needs a loan, if we can afford to let him go out.

Coulson, more potential than expected, needs a loan.

Mahady, unknown.

Zanatta, very much a streak/confidence player, but a useful outside presence.

Connolly, one of my favorites. The kind of high engine, pesky wide player that drives the opponents nuts and every team wants and needs.

Connell, not the best start, but very little time to mesh with the team. We need to see more.

We could use a physically intimidating attacker.

You've got a pretty high/recurrent opinion on all things Raith Rovers for someone who's 'observed' nothing other than a few minutes of highlights seeing as you won't pay for RaithTV Rolling Eyes

Given the whole of the preseason, plus this match, highlights for all, comments from posters, some of whom I consider to have insightful input, etc, why, yes, I do. Thank you…plus I like commas.

So Matthews is our club captain and Brown is our team captain for the new season. How do their roles differ if both playing?

O'Riordon signed on loan at CB until January. I am a bit confused by Ian's statement though that he wanted to bolster the defence with an experienced head? I welcome the Lad and wish him well, but at 18 years old, he surely can't be the experienced head Ian was talking about? Maybe there is someone else in the pipeline, or indeed I may be wrong about O'Riordon being experienced. I remember being wrong once before!

Another wee issue worth pointing out. He is only signed until January, and our other new Back Ngwenya is also only signed until January. That may cause us a problem down the track.

Let's say these two lads really hit the ground running and put in exemplary performances every week and become the beating heart of our defence. What happens then if their respective clubs want them back in January and won't take no for an answer?

I know this is all a wee bit negative, but in my experience, it is exactly the sort of problem that could only happen at the Rovers! Confused

Has it not crossed your mind that there are two parties to a contract and that the parent clubs might have stipulated that the loans are for 5 months to see how the players progress.

Aye Biggles that is definitely the case. It may be the Rovers are holding the cards regarding an extension.

I was just thinking though about the big striker that Arbroath loaned from Livingston last year. He played out of his skin and was a definite starter for Arbroath every week. However his outstanding performances caught the attention of his parent club, and they wanted him back in January. I read somewhere the Bunnet understandably did not want him to go back, but Livingston had the right of recall and Arbroath lost him against their wishes.

I simply thought it was a possibility we could find ourselves in a similar position, but with two players instead of one.

By the way I genuinely think the loss of the big lad was partly to blame for Arbroath's slight drop in form toward the end of last season.

I'm sure he scored last week against the Sevco.
