Big game (financially) for the club. Cup runs can, and do, add much needed funds to the Coffers.
I feel we are still very much in transition right now, and I sympathise with our Manager whom I believe has had no other option than to treat these cup games as try outs where he can learn more about players in actual games rather than in a training "kick about" environment. It is far to easy to jump on the Manager right now when he is hardly in the saddle. Think back to Sir Alex Ferguson's stuttering start at Manchester United, and he went on to be one of the best managers of all time. We really need to give Ian some time to settle in, and get the team playing the way HE wants them to play.
Aberdeen will be a much stiffer opponent, but if we can put in a decent show against them it might be a pointer toward a productive League campaign.
However, in reality it is the next two games against Cove, and Dundee that will really matter. |

Great post, as always HR!
One, two - maybe three new players before Sunday, IM hoped for! Then again, maybe not. My guess is that the budget is more capped than we think. Surprise news on that front tomorrow? Hard to imagine beating Cove or Dundee, as things stand, let alone Aberdeen, not least with Lopes, their new striker. Who is to say that if we progressed, we would get Rangers or Celtic away. It could be Ross County or Inverness away! Still, as they say at Starks Park, you just never know! |

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility we go up there and get the result required to top the group but the reality is, looking at the bigger picture, a decent showing and no more injuries before league season kicks off would be widely accepted by most, myself included. |

If we were to go up to Pittodrie and get the win by the amount required it would go down as the clubs finest victory since John McGlynn led us to the win up there back in 2010. Its more likely we won't manage that but as already said by SB I'd settle for a decent showing and no injuries. What I fear is a morale sapping pumping which would ramp up the pressure to ten ahead of the Cove match. _________________ Fantalk~Often wrong but never in doubt |

Just been looking at the group tables, Aberdeen can actually afford to lose by several goals to us and still qualify. They are now free to field ineligible players if they want to give them a wee runout , or put out their under 16’s? |

As I read the table, Aberdeen have qualified already. If we win, it is possible we end up Group winner (requires a 2 goal win by us) or one of three second place at 9 points (1 goal win). If we draw, regardless of bonus point, we can only get to 8 and don’t advance (Killie at 10 plus Accies and Livi at 9 above us). The reason we advance if tied with the Accies and Livi at 9 for the last two spots, is the GD would be +7 for us, trumping +3 for the others. In that case, the Accies advance on GF advantage over Livi.
Edit: Take it back, Aberdeen could not qualify if they lose by four or more to us…in that case they fall behind Us, Livi and the Accies. |

Theres more of a chance that we'll sign the 3 quality players we need, than that all happening |

It appears to have all changed with Hamilton and Pars failing to win. We can now progress with a win on penalties I think |

Yep, I saw the Accies on 9 at final, but that was a mistake…looking it over again.
Edit: You are correct. |

We have Stirling Albion ahead of us in 2nd place on 8 points, after their 3-0 win over Peterhead today. We are on 6 points. We have a +7 goal difference over Stirling, but no 2 points available tomorrow, just 3, 1 or 0. As far as I can see, only a win in regulation time tomorrow would get us 2nd spot at all now, let alone best-placed second or top-spot. |

A draw and a bonus point for winning the penalty shoot out would give 2 points. _________________ Hope he's got plenty Rovers action to comment on tonight.... |

Okay. I didn't realise that we would get the two points, if it went that way. |
