Looking forward to tonight's Game. The team looked sharp enough on the RTV highlights against Dunbar, but tonight QOS will be a tougher test.
I am looking forward to seeing the new guys settle in with the existing squad and I am very interested to see the Manager's new style of attacking football taking shape. It will also be good to see Dave McKay play at Starks Park again, and I hope our fans give him a good welcome and send off. I don't think I can be alone in thinking he maybe should have still been pulling on a Rover's shirt tonight? I genuinely believe he would have come on leaps and bounds playing alongside the likes of Berra?
Interesting times lie ahead for our team, and hopefully for all the right reasons this season. |

| I didn't attend tonight, can't be bothered with friendlies. However, we need to accept we are at least four players short, two defenders and two strikers. It's all match fitness and results shouldn't be taken seriously. |

Agree completely! They may be very good, in context, but tonight put that context into perspective. They may well improve with the right team in place. That might include one or two players who would not look out-of-place in the Premiership.
The last while has felt almost dream-like - the assertions, the vision, the signings and then the Dunbar result. Tonight was a big come-down - a reality check. Losing to a relegated side that we thrashed in a cup final a few months ago is not too a good sign, in the moment, but the team IS still very much a work in progress.
Anyway, kudos to IM, not just for arranging friendlies in the first place, but also for doing everything he can to iron out any weak-patterns, before it even matters that much. |

Feel like we learned a lot tonight about the team and players. Easton is very good with the ball at his feet but very wasteful with passes. A few times he hammered the ball at a team mate putting them under pressure that wasn't needed. Brown looks tidy, presses well and likes a tackle. Millen is again good on the ball, but isn't quick. Ross looked way off the pace first half, a half yard short but came onto a game in the second half whilst Zanatta was almost like playing with a man short for the majority of the game. Every touch from him feels lazy, we need to get the best out of him consistently.
I felt for Gullan, four or five times he pulled away from his marker and made a great run only for his team mates to not even bother to find him.
From the subs, the triallist looked busy but very raw, he's a young lad though so if we sign him, he's one to work on, not one to depend on. Mitchell and Arnott look good though, need them to push on this year, same with Greig Young, absolutely night and day since his debut in last season's friendlies. Masson looked comfortable but he's almost as tall as Connolly which is not great for a centre half.
Disappointments for me were Berra and Dick, slow, disjointed and just not a pairing we can rely on and Stanton who just looked off it, poor decision making most of the game. Sooner we have Brad back, the better.
There are positives to take, there is work to be done, I'm not worried. We won't go down but we won't be pushing to go up either right now. We need a centre half in to compete and improve the back line, ideally someone with pace and comfortable to play either left or right in the back line.
I don't understand however, why we had a triallist on the bench and didn't give him minutes to see how he fits in during a game. |

The two players signed from the "Seaside League" were absolutely fine last night, Brown probably being the standout.
Its a glorified training session, that highlighted what we already knew. We have nothing up top (sticking a No 9 on Gullan's back and hoping for the best wont cut it) and we need strengthening at the back.
The season doesn't really start for another month, zero need to panic. I'd like to see some signings come in quickly, but at the same token, if you sign players for the sake of it you end up with the likes of BRS or Mendy. Happy to trust the manager.
Mitchell looked very useful when he came on, hopefully this manager will give him more game time than the last - as he has impressed me every time he played. |

I didn't watch or follow the game last night. I've seen enough pre season matches to know that either way they tend to mean hee haw in the grand scheme of how the season ahead shapes up. Equally given the experimental nature of these games they should be free to supporters at the game and online.
However I could have foreseen we'd be inadequate in defence having let Frankie, Dave Mackay and Bene go and replaced them with a pairing of Dick and Berra. Presumably Ian Murray has a grand plan in place yet to materialise because that ain't it.
Up front the no.9 squad number will never make Gullan a main striker.
All the inadequacies we all know about appeared to have been exposed last night.
Hoping for quite a bit of positive signing news in due course. Three weeks into pre season with two games behind us and an understrength squad is making me a bit twitchy. |

What I mean about context is that a few of us, including myself, were inspired by the moves in the Dunbar game. Last night put that into perspective - losing at home against a League 1 side. Nobody on the pitch could turn it around. I am not saying Brown, Brody and Easton were they culprits. They will improve. I would like to see Brody signed. I am saying that we will also need some new players, experienced at the level we are aiming for, not just entirely players making the step up from the lower leagues. |
