I don't know if I've posted this before, however, loads of names to talk about.

Its hard to believe how Neil Brown with some help from contributors managed to record players from every club.

What a dedicated man he was.

Wow Woolfy. Thanks for this very interesting post.

Like Tam says, it's hard to appreciate the work that must have gone into making a list for every club when most of the information has come from pre digital sources? What a dedicated man Neil Brown is.

Thanks again Woolfy. Your post is a must read for all Rovers' supporters.

You beat me to it Embow. Very Happy

The data is from 1946 to 2014, that's why Davo's return is not there.

Noticed that as soon as I went back to double check to make sure that I wasn't rambling which indeed I was!🥴
Fascinating set of stats nonetheless
Many names very familiar going back to a wee boy in the second half of the 50's but heaps of almost unknown forgotten as well.
I see the Chief Constable gets a mention. When you click on his name it says he joined the police. Given his current position it's a wee bit understated although technically correct.😌

Boy, that list stirs some memories.........and I've only got to the Ds so far!😂
Some guys on there who made a big impression at the time, but moved on from The Rovers quite soon and , for one reason or another ,I lost track of their careers.
As others have said, many thanks ,WJ, for bringing this to our attention.

Here is another site for your edification.

Trawling through the transfer pages will give hours of fun.

If you want to shortcut your search Ctrl+f brings up a search pane and type in Raith, this will narrow things down.

Andy Leigh 323 appearances and only 2 goals. Slightly before my time but perhaps those more senior may recall if this is correct? I thought the half back line of Young, McNaught and Leigh was highly thought of?

Got that from the earlier link provided by wolfie

I saw one of the two up at Dens the season Dundee won the league. Mid November 1961 it was. Andy fired in a screamer into the old D C Keay end in the first half. It was 1-0 Raith at HT thanks to Andy's effort. It was 4-2 to the Rovers with roughly twenty five minutes to go. Final result 5-4 to Dundee. This was a week after Dundee hammered Rangers 5-1. Most thought the Rovers would be hammered that eeek
An epic game between a team at home, and at the top, and a team struggling badly at the bottom.
Young, McNaught and Leigh were a great half back line up in its day for the way the game was played back then. Andy Leigh was the defensive half back. Andy Young being the attacking one. Willie McNaught was the rock solid centre back or pivot as they were known then. Full backs never attacked. They stayed back to form a three with the pivot or a four or five with the half backs when deep defence was needed

Hope that helps, wellyboot?😉

Here you go guys.
Found this on the Dundee FC site.
Just as I remember things.
Unfortunately!

Ever the realist, Bob Shankly wasn’t fully convinced about his side’s championship potential until the following week when more drama unfolded at home to Raith Rovers. In front of 15,000 fans who expected big things after the Rangers win, Dundee found themselves 4-2 down with only twenty-seven minutes left against a side who were struggling next to bottom of the table.

It had been a topsy-turvy game. Raith led 1-0 at the break but two goals in two minutes gave Dundee the lead. There then followed five minutes of Dark Blue madness in which Rovers netted three times as the match saw five goals in just thirteen second half minutes.

What transpired however was, as Bobby Seith described “a key moment in the title-winning year” as “Dundee’s never-say-die attitude, allied with our undoubted skill, was able to rescue a victory from the jaws of defeat.”

Bobby Wishart pulled a goal back with an unstoppable shot before Bobby Seith uncorked another rocket with four minutes left on the clock and then in the dying seconds Gordon Smith hit the winner before being mobbed by team mates as they celebrated the 5-4 win.

At the end of the season Bob Shankly refereed to the Raith game as his “number one match” and said that “Dundee’s terrific fight and last gasp winner are surely amongst the greatest feats recorded all season.” The win over Raith, coupled with the rout at Ibrox, finally convinced Shankly that he had potential champions in his charge.
