There are worse managers out there than John Mcglynn. He hasn't turned into a bad manager overnight, and the mere mention of Jim Mcinally on this thread is enough to bring me out in a cold sweat. Sometimes better the devil you know isnt the worst route.

The form simply cannot be ignored however. Can anyone imagine being told in December, after beating Kilmarnock, that we would be 20 points behind them before tucking into our easter eggs? Or that we would be 16 points behind Arbroath? It has been a collapsed of massive proportions. Hasn't always felt like it, as we have generally competed in games with a couple of exceptions, but the form is horrendous.

It's a massive decision. The club are about to ask for the guts of £300 for season tickets, during a terrible cost of living crisis, and with the club already dealing with the hangover of the obvious off field issue. Add in one of the worst runs of form we have seen, its a tough sell. Especially as the club were marketing this season as a "title challenge" when selling ST's this year.

My gut is telling me that this may be a "nice" time for a change. There's something to be said about giving Mcgylnn a send off at the Killie game, him leaving with his held high with a winners medal. If next season gets off to any kind of tricky start, its going to be tough and I wouldn't to see the managers reputation tarnished like that. He got us out of League 1, and stablised the club in this league. When he was appointed in September 2018, if you told me this is where we would be in 2022 I would have viewed that as a resounding success.

The big question is who would come in.... If its anyone off the usual merry go round (the likes of Duffy, Mcpherson, Hopkin) then no thanks. The only achievable names that stick out to me are Craig Levein or Kevin Thomson.

What is clear is that we really need some clarity, and pretty soon.

Of course there have been injuries and selection issues, but you dont go on a run that bad for that long without there being an underlying issue somewhere.

Just for a bit of fun I'll raise your Berra with Jimmy Nic to Berra with Smudger and John McGlynn as Director of Football.🎣🃏

A good shout Embow.

Looking back, we played some of our best football when Paul was in charge due to John's illness earlier in the season. It may be the Apprentice has now overtaken the Master?

So we couple Paul with the undoubted football experience of Berra and retain John upstairs. I think this is an acceptable solution to the problem, and would be worth a try?

The only downside this would cause could be finding an extra salary for the Director of Football post?

At our level I don't see the need or budget for a DOF. Money could be better spent on other things.

Would have loved that before “the event”. Since that, Smudger staying seems unlikely due to his relationship. JMcG’s ability to run a youth development program isn’t in doubt, but his suitability is due to his narrow focus on “on the field” matter (and behavior?)…which would be the same as a DoF…which is why his staying seems unlikely when combined with this run.

JMcG has been wonderful for this team the last few years, but he is a dinosaur now (because of his focus), and the team will (eventually) move forward. In doing so, all the old, familiar names should be avoided in favor of getting a more forward looking manager in…but that does entail a measure of risk. As such, I would suggest the next manager should be a youngish hire, with a solid record at a lower level (as solid as it could be, given the constraints at those levels) who is looking for entry into the full time ranks.

Those suggesting a return to hybrid or PT are missing that Raith can use it’s FT status to help it get a good young manager looking to move up. It is true we’ll probably then lose them in a few years to a bigger club, but that’s our lot right now. I just hope our BoD don’t *bleep* it up again.

In order to try and retain as much of our 1,500 season ticket holders, which must be the most we've sold in 30 years, we need a change. I fear apathy has set in amongst the fan base and we need to have something to encourage people to part with their cash, a status quo is not an option imo.

I previously posted that Ian Murray might be an option but, maybe Berra, who still has a year on his contract with Levein as his assistant is a possibility. One thing is for sure recruitment this season has been mainly poor and we need to save money, so the thought of McGlynn "going upstairs" is a non starter and if Smith goes too, the CEO will probably follow.

Has there even been an indication McGlynn wants a new deal here? Maybe he feels the same as many of us, he can’t take the club any further and it’s time to part company?

Of recently/soon to be retired players, Steven Naismith (who I personally think would be a good option) is looking to land his 1st management job, Scott Brown too. Charlie Mulgrew is taking his badges and looking to get into management soon. With the right person/people around them, who’s to say none of them could be the answer?

That first point is one I, and I doubt many others, had considered. I did say in another post that his post match chat he looked like he had had enough and was ready for the end of the season.

Your last point, you forgot Charlie Adam. So Brown, Mulgrew, Naismith Adam, Berra as player coaches with Smudger as manager it is then Wink

The managerial talk got me to thinking about Lewis Vaughan and his future, would he consider going into management if he finds he can't continue playing, maybe he could start on his badges now

Coaching role in the future maybe and without a doubt - a mentor / motivator for injured players looking to get back their fitness.

I think he is/was the best prospect I can remember seeing.
Like John Baird, he has the football brain and awareness of a seasoned top Pro.
It must be truly devastating to go through what he has experienced.

We can only hope that his luck will change. Only time will tell. Crying or Very sad

Wonder if McGlynn would go to the green & white side of the capital?

If so I wouldn't be surprised if we were to pass each other going in opposite directions at the end of next season.
