I wonder if I may discuss the less than professional approach ALBA took towards screening this Cup Final. Now before my rant, let me say I am grateful for any opportunity to watch the Rovers on TV, and without ALBA, my screen would have been blank. So a sincere thanks for that BBC.
However, the professionalism in the broadcast was sadly lacking. The out and out Bias from the English speaking commentator was breathtaking. I did not get his full name, but his first name was David? The Gaelic speaking commentator was making more sense to me, and I don't even speak or understand Gaelic! I have never heard Bias like this on TV before. Oh wait a minute, I have. It was on ALBA in the semi final against Kilmarnock, and it came from ..... (you've guessed it) ....the same David! I put this down to the usual BBC West coast Bias. David spoke like a Weegie and Kilmarnock is closer to Glasgow than Kirkcaldy so I accepted this as standard BBC Bias. Yesterday however did not have a West coast team to make "BBC favourite" and I would not have thought Dumfries could be classed as West coast in any stretch of the imagination. So, maybe David is simply anti East coast or maybe even anti Rovers? David spent most of his time explaining to the English speaking viewer how Queen of the South could win this game. He also had a love affair of some description with Wullie Gibson who's name was never far from David's lips. By the end of the game David condescendingly patronised the Rovers viewer by grudgingly admitting we might have "just done enough" to win the game.
David was clearly missing from the BBC pre match lecture on how to pronounce the player's names. (Oh c'mon. Surely they make some sort of attempt to call a man by his proper name?) David gave our Reagan and extra "I" in his name and proceeded to call him "Tumility" every time he was on the ball. This grated on me because he was on the ball quite often yesterday.
So please ALBA. No more David?
The programme also chose to use the fifteen minutes of half time break to discuss Junior Football? Where else in a televised cup final would they discuss anything other than the game we are watching at half time??? Nowhere.
ALBA. Please get your act together for the future and can that future please be minus Bias Dave! |

It was David Hopkin I believe, the ex Morton and Ayr manager. He's awful, a worse commentator than he is manager and thats saying something |

Thanks GP. That goes some of the distance to explain his Bias, but where did the empty headedness come from? |

As biased as the Hopkins contribution may have been (I was at the game so didn’t hear it), at least Alba showed the game! For one of the three national senior cup finals, albeit without the premiership first teams, the coverage in the media in general was shockingly poor. Next to no newspaper coverage that I saw. Was it mentioned on Sportscene? The radio Scotland news last night and today didn’t mention it that I heard.
I bet if one of the Glasgow under 21 s had got through there would have been far better coverage. _________________ He's no' hairy mary he's the Rovers' little fairy!

Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland managed to squeeze in a mention in the sport's bulletin at 07.25 for the first time. It wasn't mentioned in the bulletin an hour before at 06.25, nor in the sport's news at 22.00 or 23.00 or midnight the evening before!😠
Throwing bottles onto a pitch in the southside of Glasgow took first precedence then the result, scorers etc of said match Then the Challenge Cup result, winners and order of scoring. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

BBC News 10:30 last night 2 reports on bottles breaking at Castle Doom but not even a mention of the Rovers & Queens.

Just watched the documentary on Julie Fleeting that was aired for the first time tonight from 9 -10.15pm.
Found it very interesting and didn't fully appreciate the career she has had.
Worth a look at folks. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!
