It’s mid-March and time to consider the team signed so far for next year…move Connolly to “forwards”, as the site lists him. Note we are definitely forward/wing heavy already, so not sure where the money to spend more on the attack will come from.
Raith Rovers 2022-2023 Team:
Keepers:
Bow (May 2023), J MacDonald (May 2023), Thomson (June 2023, with GK coach role too)
Backs:
Berra (May 2023), Dick (May 2023), Lang (out through first half of season, ACL surgery) (June 2023) Masson (ma) (June 2023), Young (ma) (May 2023)
Mids:
Arnott (May 2023), Matthews (June 2024), Stanton (June 2024)
Forwards:
Connolly (May 2023), Coulson (May 2023), Gullan (June 2024), Mahady (June 2023), Mitchell (ma) (thru May 2023), Ross (May 2024), Vaughan (returning from ruptured ACL) (June 2024), Zanatta (May 2023) |

There are big questions to ask ,before trying to strengthen the squad.
The fundamentals are:
1) Who will be the management team?
2) What sort of budget will there be to add quality players?
The answers to these questions may be clarified, to some extent, by how high in the table we will finish.
Are our finances such, with the fallout from the DG debacle and, perhaps, to a lesser extent, James Keatings, that we might have to go back to a hybrid model (even if we won promotion)?
In the interim, do we speculate on a range of options? Assume a similar budget to this year can be conjured up? |

Very true points, Franco. I’m just a little surprised at the number of forwards/wings that we have committed. |

I would love to see Spencer sign a new deal, he's been a massive part of the side and we absolutely miss him when he's out. |

Let's go back to hybrid. Then we can sign Nathan Austin from Kelty.
Could ship out most of the squad from this season tbh. Most wouldn't be missed.
Spencer needs to sign again. We have missed him in the middle.
As to the management team, hopefully we get a decent manager in. |

I'd like to see Musonda and McKay signing on, good young players with a future I believe _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

The Cup Final put a couple of our out-of -contract players in the shop window. Reghan Tumilty has already made it clear ,through the Courier, that he has not accepted
the offer on the table and will see how things are in the summer. Yet another fine performance (going forward) on TV means that he is likely to be away, hopefully not to a team we will face next season. Like Macca last season (yes, I know that was a management decision ) , he will not be easy to replace as an attacking threat.
Frankie Musonda will have got some kudos from playing for Zambia. Not so clear if yesterday's game enhanced his reputation or not ,since the defence was suspect up until we went 3-1 up.
Then there's the loanee, Matej Poplatnik. Player of the Match by some distance. Raith 2020 ,on another thread said just last week that Matej had approached JMcG about signing for us and the gaffer had been non-committal (which could be for a number of reasons ). We don't even know what package Matej is on at Livi. But, perhaps, our chance has gone, such was Matej's level of all-round performance and goal-scoring threat yesterday. That must have stimulated interest elsewhere, I strongly suspect. I wonder if Raith 2020 thinks his wish to be a Rovers player is any less, or any more, now?
Anyone that I have missed out? Bene's contract is ending too, but his role yesterday has to lift the Cup with Rossco.
Blaise Riley-Snow will not be returning to SP , it's clear. |

Correct me if I,m wrong but is the manager not out of contract come the end of the season?
If so i,d be surprised if any players will be signed or offered an extended contract until the managerial siutuation is clarified unless of course its the clubs intention to offer a contract to the manager and his intention is to accept one _________________ THERES FIVE OF ME |

I referred to that in my above post of 16 March, Vinnie. Surely it does not preclude any other comment on this thread, which it was entirely reasonable for Tx to open,IMO.
After all, few if any, of our posts on most threads directly influence the future of the Club, but we can still chatter☺️
I note that, perhaps, I should have mentioned Brad Spencer but he didn't play an active role yesterday and it was the various performances yesterday to which I was alluding. |

Given it seems likely that JMcG and Smudger are leaving at the end of the season, we have to hope our next manager is as willing to try and develop young players like Grieg Young and Arron Arnott. That’s a big concern I have on the next manager, especially with Mitchell and Coulson also to be shepherded through learning the game…plus Masson and Mahady as other possibilities,
Upon reflection, it was the loss of Spencer AND Tait that generally signaled the downturn in our fortunes. This suggests that JMcG had built his house upon one strategy and was unable to pivot to another…which further encourages me to desire a new management team. |
