After this dreadful season, where winning the guffy cup with a fortunate win against the side at the bottom of the league is just papering over massive cracks, it is time for new ideas.

I think it is also quite disrespectful to McGlynn that some say he should still be here next season because they cannot see someone to replace him...

He has taken us as far as he can, and I fear that if he remains next season we will be playing at Forfar and Clyde sooner rather than later.

He should go out on a kind of a high in the knowledge he won the cup last week.

Make your mind up. Is it a guffy cup or is it high that JM can leave on? It's not that McGlynn has taken the club as far as he can, it is the club that has taken McGlynn as far as it can. Three times in the last twenty years we have been relegated into League One and not one of those failures was when McGlynn was at the helm. Twice though he has came along and dragged us out of those messes. Now after a season where he has disgracefully allowed us to probably finish fifth some of us are essentially wanting him dismissed. Fifth in a league, and granted I can only speculate on this, where I reckon at least four other clubs had a bigger budget than us. Meanwhile the only team to beat us in any cup competition this season was Celtic. Our ability to not to lose to our peers, or lower league opposition or Aberdeen has brought much needed revenue into the club.
Every season my goals are to comfortably avoid relegation from the Championship and not to be embarrassed in any of the cups. So while I'm disappointed that we will likely not make the playoffs for me that was always a hope and not an expectation.
Now if John McGlynn was to be in charge for the next two seasons and we continued to only scrape a mid table finish (oh the indignity!) then maybe I'd concede that it is time to take a gamble and try someone else but for me McGlynn has a bit more credit in the bank than one slightly underwhelming league campaign.

Well said Castle.
You've saved me a fair bit of time not having to type out a very similar post.👍
In the real world of Scottish football your post is known as being very realistic.
Would that the moaners and groaners just took a wee bit of time to think over everything.
I'm not saying that the club shouldn't aim for the very best every season but be realistic in that nine times out of ten the glory season ain't gonna happen.
I noticed in yesterday's P&J that Caley Thistle were determined to stand by Dodds despite going three months without a win and a section of the fanbase getting restless. Statement said " these things happen in football and you just need to work through the bad times"...

I accept that I may be perceived as 'old fashioned', but I regard all this talk of John McGlynn's future as being seriously disrespectful and disingenuous. You are talking about a man whose affection and commitment to the club we love cannot be questioned. It must be clear to all detractors where he wants to take Raith Rovers and I have every confidence in his ability so to do. I have said before that supporters should be very careful with that for which they wish. Mentioning names of managers currently with other clubs is also unhelpful. On the one hand, the aforementioned detractors are full of criticism about the running of the club, whilst, on the other, they appear to assume that their nominees would jump at the chance to join us!

Castle your post is well constructed and captures the season as a whole in terms of objectives. You are correct that a fifth place finish and the cup win will probably represent success for the Rovers.

However if you break the season up into smaller chunks of two halves a different pattern emerges. We are simply in free fall and show no way of turning this around. The fact we are still within touching distance of the play offs is down to the Championship winning form we displayed in the first half of the season.

The only manager I can recall being given more loyalty by a club during such a horrendous run of form was Darren Dods at Brechin and look where that took Brechin.

I'm a massive Mcglynn fan but aspects of Wed night bother me. He doesn't seem capable of getting the best out of certain players by the way he sets up the team. The tactics and formation against the Pars was really quite incredible given the previous games we had played going into this match. I'm getting flashbacks of the Andy McNeil scenario.

I'm inclined to think if a contract was a given he'd have it by now. Whether this means that no decision has been made, it's already been decided that he's leaving or is dependent on how we finish up I dont know. It's not great however creating massive uncertainty given what we could still achieve this season.

I'm with Castle, Embow, and Westover on this.

I get it, the recent stutter in performance is less than perfect, but our management team must have banked some credit for the many positives they have achieved thus far, and deserve at least one more year to rebuild team confidence. I have said before. The DG saga MUST have affected the players as much as it affected the fans, and this has clearly had a part to play in our recent terrible form. (If Manchester United had not shown some patience with Sir Alex Ferguson back in the day, he would just be plain old Alex today. Mind you he may have come back to Scotland and managed the Rovers to European and world Glory! However, he would still be plain old Alex, and we would still have mumping and moaning fans.

The fact that John and Paul have not yet been re-signed is more to do with a Board terrified of taking decisions that may turn out to be controversial to the fans. I genuinely think the Board are currently in an impotent limbo brought on by their own actions I agree, but not helped by the continuous baying from certain sections of our fans who will not be happy no matter what the Board decide. So the Board spend time issuing statements of rhetoric in a desperate, but unsuccessful attempt to placate the fans.

Surely John and Paul deserve another season where hopefully we are less severely hampered by injury and with NO off field distractions? Then we just might see their plans coming together.

This is the bit that resonated with me, I feel we spend a lot of time trying to stop other teams playing their game rather than concentrating on making them play ours. There is not a vast difference between any team in this league and therefore the winners are the ones that impose their game on the opposition more. We're just not doing that and its one of the reasons that things aren't working. We started the season as a proper passing team that got us sitting at the top of the table or thereabouts and we've moved away from that for no real reason and its hurting us.

We can blame injury or off-field distractions but our form slumped before most of that hit home, aside from Vaughan of course.

I'm not sure whether i'm in the stay or go camp, when McGlynn joined us, I wasn't convinced it was a good call at the time, but he's absolutely proven me wrong over the last few seasons. Yes, we won League One as a result of Covid and we ended up finishing high up in a truncated season last year, this year is our first full season of the last 3 and its been good overall in terms of accomplishments but breaking it down into quarters as John himself tends to do, we're at an unacceptable low right now.

My other issue is I just don't have anyone available that jumps out as a sure candidate to come in thats not someone like James McPake, and if thats the answer, we're asking the wrong question.

I ,too, agree with Castle. JMcG and Smudger have credit in the bank.
This has been a testing season but, with four games to go, we are still contesting a play-off place.
Next season will be a tricky one, as the indications are that we are going to be on a very tight budget and we will need
an experienced management team in charge.
As Tx says , we have the core of a decent squad but ,unlike him, I think that indicates that we keep the guys who signed the players, and
therefore see their qualities. A new manager would want his own players and we are not in a position to sign up a big squad.
There's a lot we don't know, of course, principally, what John Sim is thinking and is prepared to do, but also if JMcG wants to continue, if given
the opportunity.

JMcG’s line of credit has expired. To be afraid to change managers because “who is available” is silly, because you can get a successful manager from another club, you don’t have to hire off the street. The Rovers are, despite efforts by the BoD in Jan/Feb, a reasonably attractive job, with a decent fan base, and potential for a younger manager to prove his worth. In much the same way we try to develop talent and sell it on, that’s how our management role is likely to be filled. Sorry, but we’re not the big boys who can retain a highly talented manager, but we can attract someone…so saying we should stand still after a terrible spell since December seems silly.

Win the next two games and a lot of this will be on the back burner, especially if Thistle lose tonight 😌
I still live in hope.

You seem to forget that developing young talent is one of McGlynn and Smith's strengths.

Well another important step towards rebuilding for next season with the fantastic sponsorship news.

Nice to see some positivity developing and things looking forward.
