Happy to answer Gary Parker. Train cancellations have prevented one attendance and an attempted train suicide at NQ another and left supporters of ICT and rovers stranded and unable to attend the game. Saturday I was at the rugby after a friend gifted me and my daughter tickets. In time to watch RaithTv though. I am quite used to watching Raith Tv as I lived abroad for 25 years and was in the Guinea pig group for the first live streams. No offence to Guinea pigs. I am a season ticket holder and appreciate the option that the club have allowed for watching during the pandemic. I am in the older age group and although I enjoy match days - weather, pandemic and general risk including Edinburgh roadwork play a large part in whether I think attending in person or online is the best option on any given home match. I also attend the odd away match by the way and don’t mind paying other clubs for streaming the Rovers. _________________ Here Wee go again |

Thanks Willie, I was curious because I don't think you're the only one doing that and of course, all very valid reasons. Travel is always a bit of a difficulty if not coming from Kirkcaldy, and actually even if coming from Kirkcaldy as well. I imagine its more annoying trying to navigate Edinburgh traffic etc first too. |

I have been to two home games so far by the way - Hamilton and Ayr. As a clarification for age I have supported the Rovers since 1960 - first game v St Mirren and next away to Morton. Don’t think we won either - could be wrong - but a bit of an answer to Scotty is that I think support for a local team depends on starting to follow at a young age and the persuasion of family and friends - how many big team supporters (not the Pars) are there in the catchment area? I reckon the size of the catchment area and choice of sport or team plays a huge part in the growth of support. We may already be close to the upper limit. _________________ Here Wee go again |

You're right Wullie, Catchment is a big big thing but conversely I honestly think Rovers are Rovers are far better placed than many others, especially when you consider Kirkcaldy and its environs (Glentothes including its surrounding villages and districts, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Aberdour, Cardenden etc) which must must be getting on for close to the region of 120,000 - 130,000 people.
Glenrothes has no professional team and I see that as approximately 40,000 people with no team to support (it's just a shame there's such a weedgie overspill legacy) and that is something we should be tapping right into.
120,000 people? If we could only tap into just 3% 0f that we'd have over 3,600 fans every week.
Unfortunately what we do have is an Icehockey team, Fife Flyers are the oldest team in Scotland and possibly the UK, outwith Dundee which is nearly 3 times the size of Kirkcaldy (Stars/Rockets) and Edinburgh which is 10 times bigger (Capitals/Racers) no other town has sustained its Icehockey club, and critically in almost every case the football team has been on the whole more prosperous than Rovers. Perth (Panthers), Falkirk (Lions) , Dunfermline (Vikings), Paisley (Pirates). I think the only exceptions would be Ayr (Raiders) and Solway Sharks (Dumfries) who have have generally had similar luck to us.
This will doubtless upset some but I don't think in the modern age Kirkcaldy can sustain two professional sports at a decent level. Very few people can afford to attend both, those that do have the disposable income tend in my experience to be PENSIONERS. Families in general can afford to take/send kids to one or another (and some not even have that luxury) but rarely both.
In an ideal world I'd say live and let live, but it's not an ideal world and I'm a Rovers fan, so I'm with Paul McCartney and wings

Assuming 1960-1961 season…17 Sept 1960 Raith 5-2 St Midden and 10 Dec 1960 Ayr 1-1 Raith seem the likely matches… if it was the 1959-1960 season, I can’t find the match data. |
