It has been shown in the past, but this was another example: The Rovers are a better, more balanced team when Ross Matthews plays.
JMcG may have felt it that no-one deserved to be dropped to allow Rossco to return, but it wasn't the right mix in midfield, especially away from SP.
Good to see Frankie Musonda, but where does he fit into the team on a more regular basis?
Jamie MacDonald earned us our point today.

JMcGs desire is Musonda as a sweeper in front of his back four, effectively replacing Tait, with Matthews and Spencer playing above him. Effectively a 4-1-4-1 or 4-1-2-3.

Musonda getting a full competitive match would have done him good, team had the feel of being chucked together without anyone, except Jammer knowing what they were supposed to do, I by the Gods did Jammer deliver.
Dodged a bullet, no real damage done.
Next.

I guess a sweeper in Texas is something different.

That pitch looked as bad as any grass pitch in January in the 70s. The wind also looked pretty fierce and all in not conducive to good passing football.

If you are not going to win then the value of the result lies with results elsewhere which worked largely in our favour.

A good point all in and move on.

Not very often you hear John McG complaining about the officiating of games but he's having a pop at them in his post match interview. after the Ethon Varian booking today.

Surprised by J McG's outburst of frustration about Varian's booking. Is it not the case that
Ethon and Matej had both been booked three times in the Championship before today?
What seems more relevant is that our two strikers don't get the number of free kicks merited (or is that looking at games through blue-tinted glasses? Laughing )

Think J McG has every right to have a pop at the ref and not just regards Varians booking. Some of his other decision were baffling and all in all yet another poor ref

Poor performance, poor conditions, yet another hard earned result that takes us 1 point closer to the top. Exactly what we need to do to keep a promotion challenge going. Onwards and upwards.

Never mind being hardly in the game. We were hardly in the highlights!🥺😉
Got away with one yesterday. Now consigned to the records and history.
Time to move on.👍

Not our best performance is a massive understatement, we were rank! Easily our worst performance I've seen of us this season, yet we still didn't lose!

Defensively we were shaky at times, love Frankie to bits as defensively he's solid but not as good going forward as Dick (1st game back though so deserves to be cut some slack).
Attack wise Varian was living on scraps, pushed and pulled about by their defenders he refused to be bullied and saw yellow for a fairly innocuous challenge, Poplatnik gave them something else to think about but by and large QotS defended well against us.
Midfield, what midfield? It was an utter ****show from us especially in the 1st half, no cohesion, 2nd to every 2nd ball and poor movement all round. I was surprised to see Spencer in the line-up but at half time you could have subbed anyone of him, Tait, Ross or Zanatta as only Connolly was doing anything hard decent and tbh he wasn't exactly shining!
Rovers best man on the day was MacDonald who kept us in it with a string of good saves.
They sliced us open time and again in the 1st half and but for Macca and poor finishing we could have been anything between 2 and 4 goals down at half time.
Ethan Ross is a great player but fitting 3 wingers into this side isn't working. I don't know the answer but perhaps playing Connolly in the middle in a free role or rotating from the bench might be best but the balance in the middle we enjoyed with Matthew, Spencer & Tait was absent yesterday.
Tait came in for a lot of stick yesterday (unfairly imo) but by the time he was subbed for Matthews it was the right call, still harsh though as far too many players in red were misplacing passes and not on their mettle.

Unless Tait's loan is extended (unlikely) in January we are going to need another body in, anyone heard anything about a young lad from down south?

McGlynn said in an interview a couple of weeks ago that he'd been at a game in Newcastle on a Monday night.
Someone said Newcastle reserves were playing Wolves reserves that night, so possibly a connection in there somewhere.

Conditions yesterday certainly did not help.

I dont think this pitch is any better or worse than most plastic pitches. It certainly LOOKS weird on TV, but then again, so does san starko on the telly.

Me of the opinion it was more the fact that here on the west coast the wind was in excess of 40 mph according to the BBC weather app, and I was out with my dog and agree with the beeb.

The swirling wind has a massive impact on playing conditions and it would have SOME effect on the performance, that said, QOS dealt with it better than us.
As somewhat of a specialst on weather due to being a retired air traffic controller who was formally trained in basic meteorology, I can confidently say that on the west coast it is wetter and windier than the east coast by some margin.

The point being, QOS are more exposed to these conditions more than we are and maybe they adapt better.
This all stated, there has been quite a few changes to the team recently and that could also have made a difference.

I am quick enough to criticise usually, but, Methinks the weather and the changes of personnel had a negative effect, and we were VERY LUCKY that our keeper is without doubt our saviour.

Learn and move on.

SG, supposedly Newcastle employee, Shola Ameobi, was taking in the game at East End yesterday.
