We'll just keep bumbling along then, stuck in the SFA's time warp unless by some miracle that institution is dismantled allowing us as a footballing Nation to rise again

Dykes would struggle to hold down a championship place. Hype of the highest order. Couldn't win a header or hit a barn door from two yards.Tidy hair do though.

Forget the superlatives about the second goal that was embarrassing goalkeeping at any level.

Kevin Nisbet international class? Give me strength.

I could go on but theres a decent euro tie to watch,

Thought Clarks team selection was wrong and too slow to change it

With NR regards the second goal

Upshot is,we are a third rate team beaten by a second rate team

Crowd given as 9800 so where were the other couple of thousand or so

Negative team selection had us on the backfoot from the off.

Probably need something from Wembley now along with beating Croatia, today was the big chance and we (our manager high up the list) blew it.

Other nations seem to get by on quality or luck, we seem destined to have just not enough of either. We didn't execute our chances and they were clinical with theirs, but in truth there isn't a single Scot who has the ability to score both the goals that Schick did.
After the season that some Celtic men have had I was surprised that Christie got the nod today (surely Turnbull was the better option of the 2) and downright amazed McGregor got on at all, he was awful.
KT was a massive miss for us and if he's fit get him in for Hendry, and while we are at it get Patterson, Turnbull and Gilmour on too. Yes Marshall was a long way off his line but even Rio Ferdinand acknowledged "its where keepers are expected to be these days"
Star men for me were Robbo, Hanley, Dykes and Forrest when he came on.

Well, Scotty, you are on the wrong Forum to give your reasoned analysis of the game!
Why not join the others in saying Scotland are rubbish and always will be ? How they must wish that they were born in another footballing country!
You are bang on . We didnt have a goalscorer within thirty million Euros or more
of Schick.
We've tried going down the Scottish ancestry route (eg recently McBurnie, Dykes and Adams)
, looked at Kevin Nisbet and gave Griffiths every chance to get fit, but we are miles away from a European class strike force. KT would have made a difference ,but we had 19 attempts at goal, so we weren't set up just to defend,as has been a fault in recent failed qualifying campaigns.
Robbo was in the mood but our other big players ,McTominay and McGinn (well-marked) were disappointing.
But two class players were the difference. Schick and their keeper.

Agree Franco, McGinn was marked out of the game and McTomney was the only midfielder dropping deep to collect the ball and so they just closed him down too, we were crying out for someone like Gilmore to come on and share that responsibility. As Schick said "we knew their tactics and did the job right".

In analysis the first goal comes from a basic overlap that had happened at least twice before, it was no surprise they got it at some point. The wonder goal was just that but as Schick said "I saw the keeper was very high in the 1st half and was ready for the chance" like I said we have nobody of that calibre. I don't absolve Marshall completely from blame but would say Hendry was more at fault. O'Donnell was the ball and JH blew it, the break of the ball was a wee bit lucky but there was nothing fortunate about Schick's execution, as I was saying earlier it's all about varying degrees of luck and quality, some just have it and some just dinnae. We're not far away from it but still behind the curve.

I don't think anyone in navy blue had a real stinker but some choked more than others, some looked ring rusty and Cal McGregor was just fairly louping, so much so I hope to never to see him in a national shirt again.

Scotty, not sure how you can claim us to have no luck, we won a penalty shootout v Israel after a tie we probably should have lost then another in Serbia!

Clarke got the formation wrong for this particular match, gifting the emphasis to the Czechs from the off. They are a decent side but too much respect given in what was a great chance for us to impose ourselves on this group.

I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that we get a result at Wembley, either way, we certainly need to unleash some of the young boys v an aging Croatia, let the handbrake off a bit and have a right good go.

We are only one game in and already our tournament is full of regret and ‘what ifs?’

We can boogie, but until we start scoring goals we might need to aim for the finals of ‘Strictly’ rather than qualifying for the next stage of the Euros. I don’t blame Marshall or Hendry; it’s a rotten song. Change it, Clarke!

No we certainly were not good against Israel but lucky to win against them? And then again lucky against Serbia? I actually thought that unlike in the semi against Israel once in the final against Serbia we were the better team and that it was they who were lucky to equalise with the last gasp. Admittedly we rode our luck a little in ET after being deflated by the late goal but I would disagree we were lucky to win on penalties. If you proscribe to games that go to penalties being "a lottery" then it's a gamble as much as luck.

I will agree that Clarke got it wrong with the formation, the loss of KT probably forced his hand some but after 30 mins of getting done down the wings on the overlap and McTomney getting hounded as he was the only man dropping deep the manager should have rung the changes but he didn't. Some of the players are barely international class and some just aren't and those guys rely heavily on the guys that are class having a good day, unfortunately too many choked yesterday IMO. Hendry taking the shot instead of passing out wide was a classic example of inexperience at this level, such lapses are usually costly in qualifiers but are more likely fatal in finals where the quality is always that bit better. At the end of the day Hendry's was one mistake amongst many, better quality in shooting (Robbo, Hendry, Dykes) would have seen us through as would a wee rub of the green here and there with deflections and blocks that fell to Czecks not Scots.

Yes we are only a game into the tourney and already lamenting the "ifs and buts" but at least we are there to do so. If it's luck you want to speak about I've seen my fare share of bad luck at qualifiers at Hampden, such as that Italian free kick and a Czech penalty both of which should never have been given and ultimately robbed us of places in finals.

I never said we aren't lucky nor that we aren't any good what I did say was when it came to luck and ability "we seem destined to have just not enough of either." and I stand by that.

After taking in the England v Croatia game I thought the hosts were the better side, Croatia looked off the pace and are now perhaps an ageing/transitional side who appeared totally reliant on the talismanic Modric. On that showing they looked pale imitation of that side that finished runners up in 2018 but the fact that in the end England only sneaked it suggests that neither side will trouble the likes of France even if I suspect they will both still have far too much going for them for Scotland to get the better of.
Stranger things happen but I struggle to see us getting anything on Friday and would be delighted just to get anything at all out of the 2 games.

Scenario set for a draw at Wembley then leading 1-0 on the 89th minute at home to Croatia before conceding a late equaliser that paps us oot whilst Croatia progress having beaten the Czechs in the previous match and England beat them in the last game.😉
It's the Scottish way and the hope that kills 🥺
