As we are reminded , constantly, it is twenty-three years since Scotland last played in a major Finals.
Unfortunately, especially for my son as his first experience of such an event, he and I will not be in our usual place in the North Stand at Hampden to watch the team. Perfect attendance at the National Stadium ,but lack of travel to away matches. But we will be there in spirit.
Steve Clarke said at the start of the camp, that he was fairly sure of his starting team. Surprisingly, therefore , there is widespread debate about a number of positions.
It seems to me that he values highly, players who have performed well for him in the past.
On that basis, Marshall will be in goals (and , I, for one do not wish to see Craig Gordon in goals again against England )
Likewise, O'Donnell at RWB . Hanley or Gallagher in the centre of the defence, or both in the team at the expense of Hendry? I'm not sure, but I have a feeling Gallagher will be the one to miss out , despite Hanley having the occasional lapse in concentration.
McGregor seems to be a constant in SC teams, ignoring his indifferent season with Celtic.
The rest of the team picks itself ,apart from up top.
I can't see both Dykes and Adams starting. It is much more likely that we have two strikers if we need to chase a goal. With Fraser having missed the latter part of the season, I suspect that it will be Christie playing off Adams (although I'd like to see Ryan Fraser come on in the latter stages, but in what position would depend on how we are doing with half-an- hour to play)
Come on SCOTLAND ,do us proud!

Think the important thing to remember is that even 3rd place will likely be good if we win a game...

No point overly worrying about getting a draw minimum, staying in running after 1st fixture etc..

To me it is basically a cup final v Czechs, go all out to win, if we don’t, we still have two more shots at it. Draws are of far less value than usual in these groups

Anyway, two strikers up front thanks, certainly in ‘on paper’ our easiest fixture, at home too non the less..

After the distressing scenes in Copenhagen the euros now seem totally irrelevant.

Football well and truly put into perspective with what's happened in Denmark.
Just got to hope beyond hope that Eriksson pulls through.

I’m actually amazed at last statement saying he is being ‘stabilised’ in hospital cause it looked unlikely we would hear anything positive from what was witnessed on the field. Praying he pulls through

Looking likely that he's been pulled through thanks to very quick medical action.
However, hope he wasn't 'gone' for too long before resuscitation as there may be secondary damage due to lack of oxygen to the brain.
Just still got to hope for a full and successful recovery.

Match to restart in ten minutes time! 20.30CET.
19.30BST
Apparently at the player's request.

Latest is he is conscious, alert and talking, the wonders of modern medicine. Suspect he wont kick a ball in anger again but he is still with us which is a blessing for his family.

Welcome back to the big time Scotland.
23 years and nothing has changed.
Still a poor team with few skills. A bunch of journeymen trying their hardest but in reality just not good enough. A major reason for me losing interest in Scottish International football over quite a number of years has been watching how badly we've fallen behind other countries in ability and skills. We must be the weakest team in the Euros or very close to it. In all honesty we were fortunate to qualify in the first instance.
Just need to get a win at Wembley!
Aye! That'll be right! 😂😂😂
We'll get a thumping down there if today is anything to go by.

Another disappointment, we're just not good enough either skillfully or tactically, somethings got to change whether thats Colt teams with home grown talent in the lower 2 divisions or an English Manager or both ,
Just my thoughts on the need for change

Agree with every word of Embow’s post, and I also stopped watching most Scotland games over the past 20 years for the same reason. However will hope for a footballing miracle to get us out of the group stage, by staying in it this time.

Spot on lads.

Our football ability, both skills and tactics are laughable.

Needs successful football people at the top (Nae suits and eejits)

Apologies Armagh Rover, I don't see how either of those options improve the fortunes of Scottish football and the national team in isolation. For me, we have to go back to grass roots and youth football, the damage is done by the time players get to club level. The change has to be made there and then propagated throughout the pyramid. We still put a lot of emphasis in our club game on players needing to be "big and strong" and athletic attributes before technical skills. That mindset doesn't change however until the mindsets of clubs and managers changes to go along with it. The changes Germany made in the early 00's is something that has to be considered in Scotland.

As for the game, Scotland lacked at both ends of the pitch, up front we lacked a final ball and at the back we lacked positional sense and danger awareness. We did well other than that though. I don't believe Christie should have started, Adams showed more in his 4 mins than Christie did. Still, first time in 23 years we've been at a tournament, savour it I guess.

Going by present day standards it will be another 23 years, or much more likely, never again, before we will be seen in the finals of a major tournament.
Simple question.
Who from that Scottish team today would get in the English, Croat or Czech team?
Never mind being in the Italian, Spanish, Belgian and various other countries' teams.☹️🥺

I really fail to see how Rangers and Celtic youth players playing in the lower leagues is going to transform things.
