After that entertaining digression, isn't there some sort of game on tonight?

See in today's Courier that it's 25 years ago since the Pars won the Championship when the late Norrie McCathie tragically died with his partner half way through the season. I should think that they'll be well fired up to mark the occasion albeit being a generation ago. It's still a major event in the club's history.
Please Rovers just don't let them celebrate. Commemorate yes but not celebrate with a victory tonight.

SDR , if I recall correctly, Humphries was named MotM in his first game at SP. When it was announced , with the game still on-going ,he was so surprised ,he made some howler ,like falling over the ball or letting the ball run under his foot ,whilst last defender. Things got no better for him, at Raith, and he disappeared whence he came.
A bit of good-tempered debate is healthy. There's probably not been a manager or player in the history of football who does not have his or her detractors.
I don't recall any of the posts re this discussion ,though, ''vilifying'' anyone else. I think the end result is that we have agreed to disagree. I am genuinely sorry that some of The Rovers long-standing fans have not felt the pleasure that my son and I have, in this terrific season. How they feel in the majority of seasons ,I can only speculate😳.

On to this evening and I'm not sure what to expect. Davo will play and that must be better than fielding either Mendy or Cooney. (Had that been the choice , I would rather have gone with Macca at LCB ,switching Bene to RCB and playing Dan at LB, but know that JMcG wouldn't)

Equally good news is that Ross Matthews will be back. I can't remember which player commented earlier this season that Rossco was the fittest player, no contest. Hopefully, that will stand him in good stead ,and not just this evening.

McManus scoring against us is a given, so I'll settle for 1-1 this evening.

Where does time go? I spoke with Norrie McCathie a number of times. He seemed a very decent bloke, as well as being a true stalwart and leader for the Pars. A tragic way to lose his life.

I remember Humphries MOTM award and the reasons behind it. A well known life long Rovers' supporter in the Sponsors' lounge was charged with nominating the winner and would not budge from nominating the referee, who had been appalling. Eventually, after sustained pleas from club officials, he capitulated and named Humphries, who had been shocking.

I'm sure that supporter will join me in wishing our team all the very best in the forthcoming games. Their performances this season have brought welcome light to our lives in these challenging times.

Scotty, you have not got that quite right about Norrie McCathie's personal life ,but, I , for one, don't intend to re-visit that aspect. The whole thing was a tragedy.

Also 25 years ago was the last season for another centre half for us....Robbie Raeside. Maybe not a legend but he had a horrific injury that he came back from. He had the potential to be a classy centre half but this injury curtailed this in my opinion. It goes to show that no matter how good you are or how great you could be a football career could be cut short unexpectedly (although Raeside did manage to continue at a lower level). So on that note lets hope the players go out tonight and perform to the best of their abilities in a 2-0 away win for us!!

Raeside actually left us and signed for Dundee where he played more times for them than he did for us.

And of course he subsequently returned to us to coach the Under 19s for a spell.

But despite all that, he's now a regular at Tannadice, because his son chose to support the Arabs over either Dundee or Rovers - or indeed Arbroath, where much of Robbie's loyalty lies after his long stint there as assistant to his good friend, now departed, John McGlashan.

And so, out of that lot, we're probably not even in Robbie's top three favourite teams!

He was, for a long while - but if I recall last time I saw him, he had become restless with that career and has quit the force, possibly 2-3 years ago now...

I'll just stick this in here seeing as the title is Play offs.
Kelty Hearts doing what the 'big Hearts' couldn't manage by winning 2-0 up here in Brora. Could have been a lot more as Joe Malin in Brora goals saved two penalties in the first ten minutes!

BBC SCOTLAND ACQUIRES PLAY-OFF RIGHTS FOR FIVE SEASONS

The SPFL has agreed a five-season deal with BBC Scotland for the rights to screen the Premiership quarter-final and semi-final play-off ties.

The SPFL acquired these rights back from Sky Sports last summer. Sky Sports will retain the rights to both legs of the Premiership play-off final, which will take place on Thursday 20 and Monday 24 May this season.

The BBC’s additional rights will begin with live coverage of both legs of the Premiership play-off semi-final, between Dunfermline Athletic or Raith Rovers, and Dundee, on Wednesday 12 and Saturday 15 May 2021.
