With the lower leagues starting up again I see that players are now heading out on loan from clubs. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nando going out on loan too (and possibly a few others, Smith, Arnott, Mahady, Coulson?).
When all’s said and done Mendy at the age of 27 hasn’t enough of the required ability required to play at this level. Cheaper option or not I’d bet the mortgage on no contract extension being announced in May, anymore centre half pre-contract announcements before then will as good as confirm it.

| I don't see keeping Mendy as an option. This is his 2nd season here and no where near challenging for a first team place. He is not a youngster so it's not about waiting on him to develop. |

Davo, too old, too slow, too angry. Away
Mendy, perfectly acceptable reserve CB, not needed if Frankie is kept. Will likely excel in League one or Two next year if released. Away, unless Frankie is lost, then keep.
Armstrong, streaky pest, valuable for flexibility. Keep.
Hendry, will be recruited elsewhere and will leave unless we get promoted. Away.
Duku, lived up to reputation, started like a house on fire and now has disappeared. Away.
Vaughan, coming back, if he ends the season health there will be similar level interest. Will stay with Rovers, Keep.
Spencer, valuable and worth keeping. Keep.
Musonda, would keep before any but Hendry, and even then I’d be hard pressed to choose keeping Hendry over Musonda. Keep, please, somehow...would stay if we get promoted.
Ugwu, hasn’t shown enough, will find a spot in League One or the lower reaches of the Championship, if not a roster down south. Away. |

Mendy, wont!
Smith, allowed to leave
Ugwu, probably allowed to leave
Duku, same
Spencer, will probably be offered a contract and I think he will stay.
Armstrong, as immediately above.
Musonda, will be offered but might be heading south (hopefully stays).
Hendry, again will be offered but might be looking for a SPFL gig with a team likely to stay there.
The above list is more of what I hope happens, I'd be delighted to retain the last 4 or 5 but only time will tell, I've not given up all hope on retaining all four.
PS, the Davo comment was tongue in cheek.

I’m afraid you are correct about letting Smith leave, and I greatly fear we will regret that move. With Zanatta, Keatings, Vaughan and Mahady already signed, and Smith not really a winger, he is possibly the odd one out. He has something, but also seems injured a lot...unless JMcG has been withholding him deliberately to avoid exposing him to view because he has plans for him. On the other hand, we have a spot for at least a third/fourth CF, but we’d like them to also play RW.
Word is St.Johnstone are looking hard at Hendry, perhaps related to SAndo’s time here last year giving them some inside insight on his character. The concern about this news is this:
Is Matthews the key to the midfield, when Hendry is also playing or regardless? We know that we lost effectiveness when Ross went out, but we didn’t exactly set the place on fire when Hendry was out either. We’ll need a midfielder with vision to replace Hendry, so were we auditioning King? |
