No definite mention of professional sports in new lockdown regulations but asking people not to travel unless absolutely necessary across Scotland tightens things.
Might I be right in assuming that fitba' players will be considered as being allowed to work in a similar way as bin men, delivery drivers, etc., as long as strict protocols are in place?
Then again, I wouldn't be too surprised if the plug was pulled on this season if things don't improve by end of this month.
Tough times still ahead.

If the plug is pulled does that mean that the likes of Hearts and Falkirk would stay in their respective leagues and that Rangers wouldn't win the Premiership? Very Happy Smile

Having all been so vocally diametrically opposed to it last time surely they'd look rather hypocritical (and silly) to say anything otherwise?

Couple of points

They are asking(telling) people to work from home where possible, obviously not possible where footballers are concerned

Flip side is when only essential businesses are permitted to operate some would question why football/ sport would be classed as essential

Apparently all professional sports still being allowed to continue meantime.
SFA will be liasing with Scottish Government as weeks progress
A very valid couple of points Vinnie.
It was the second one that I was more thinking of as causing a debate across the land.

I,ll no doubt be in the minority but I disagree with professional sport/ football being deemed as essential

Oops forget it is essential for Celtic to travel to Dubai for a winter training camp Wink

The Scottish Gov has said tonight that they want SFA to look into Celtics trip to see if they are bending rules. I suggest they have as they are not competing/playing games in the country they are in, only training, which can be done from home.

I would also laugh if the PM announces tonight that all arrivals into the UK have to quarantine for 2 weeks.

It's certainly not essential. Can't argue that it is.
My only thought is that it does give lots of people/fans something to cling on to in these dire times. I admit that's a very weak argument but it's the only justification I can think of.
As for Celtic? They'd be doing everyone a great service if they were to cancel and make it abundantly clear that this is not the right thing to do.
Even some of the roasters might take notice.
Will they cancel or take notice?
Never going to happen.😡

Too late, Embow, according to the BBC :

''Celtic travelled to the United Arab Emirates on Saturday just hours after their Old Firm defeat.''

Who, whether those at Celtic or whoever ,allegedly, approved this could have come up with ANY reasons for thinking the trip was a good idea in these times ? Just can't fathom it.

I hope that their actions do not rebound on the rest of professional sport in Scotland which, if protocols are followed, is providing socially useful interest, even distraction, for many folk during these dark days.

"The training camp was arranged a number of months ago & approved by all relevant footballing authorities & @scotgov through the Joint Response Group on 12th November 2020.

"The team travelled prior to any new lockdown being in place, to a location exempt from travel restrictions. The camp, the same one as we have undertaken for a number of years has been fully risk assessed.

"If the club had not received Scottish Government approval then we would not have travelled."

It may well have been approved in November but everyone has been aware of the changes since then so that comes across as a poor reason/excuse for going ahead with the trip

Hope it pisses of rain for the duration of their trip

They even managed to "persuade" 🤭 the SPFL to put their game v Hibs back until a week today to accommodate this nonsense. Hibs were not best pleased at the time but SPFL and backbones are never found in the same sentence unless it's like this one.😠

Leaving the change in restrictions aside, even by mid November Celtic had played less games than most other teams in the league.
Surely the authorities should have rescheduled one of their outstanding fixtures for this midweek with no other games scheduled?
As Embow says above, their match with Hibs was moved without any consultation to their opponents from either Celtic themselves or the authorities.
Mind you, we're saying this as if we should be surprised.

Report on tonight's news suggesting SFA will not be investigating or taking any action over Celtic trip.
Quelle surprise!
Also believed to be a huge panic inside Hampden as a shiver is running around looking for a backbone to run up!😠

Probably posted in wrong place but it follows the previous post..(mine!🙄)
Tom English taking no prisoners.
Not often I agree with him but can't really find fault with this take on things.
