Right, another for the more seasoned among us...
Where there seems to be a house now, there used to be a baker located almost next to the old Church of Scotland, at the corner of Ramsey Road and Barnet Crescent. What is now a planter alcove was the entrance. Used to walk down from me grannies and get fresh rolls every morning. Anyone recall or can verify that memory? This would be around 1970-1975. It was across from the old joiners shop. |

The shop I remember on that corner was originally run by Mrs Fernie and then it was taken over by Mrs Simpson.
Can`t remember the year the shop was transferred but I think it would have been about 1970. |

Just checking, that wasn’t the corner shop with the post office inside (John Haig?) that’s at Ramsey and Links St. |

Dave Lees might be the man to answer this. He grew up in Barnet Crescent but I'm not sure exactly when that was. However, he posts on here now and again and a pm to him might help.
ETA - Is the white faced building the one you're referring to?

Indeed it is. When I was young and wandering down to the store on Links Street, I wandered by the bakers all the time. The alcove was a doorway, and the glass block was, as I remember it, the window that always allowed a peak at the rolls and such.
What’s Dave’s name on here? |

Got this from the artist formerly known as Zicoromanes.
TXRover was on fantalk asking about a bakers he remembers at the bottom of Ramsay Road,as you know I am unable to reply or post anymore. I feel I know the answer to his question if I am right it's a possibility of two bakeries. One the Links Breadmaking Society, the other was a family business run by the Venters family,I'm not sure what the shop may have been called but I had the pleasure of working with Bob Venters at Tom Fisher's bakery at the Links Street end of the High Street and if my memory serves me correctly he also had a shop in Dysart. Anyway if you could shove it on fantalk I would be very grateful. _________________ Competitive goals: Connolly 15, Easton 6, Gullan 6, Stanton 4, Dick 3, Vaughan 3, Brown 2, Connell 2, McBride 2, Frederiksen 1, OG 1. |

Hi, the old shop in the picture (white faced building) was indeed run by Mrs Fernie and my mum worked in the shop. This was a general shop selling basic food stuffs, sweets etc and the did sell bread, rolls, pies but it wasn't a bakery really.
As mentioned, Mrs Fernie owned the shop and it was taken over by Mrs Simpson, wife of the links street barber Johnny Simpson. My mum continued to work in the shop and I used sit in the back shop after finishing infant school (Abbotshall, on Ramsey street) waiting for her to finish work.
There was the Coop bakery on links street, opposite the Post office they supplied the bread etc to Mrs Fernie's shop.
I had thought the Venters, ran the shop at the top of Barnet Crescent which was a newsagents. Blankenstein took it over
The joiners was run by George Muir who lived opposite us on Barnet Crescent.
I lived in No. 70 Barnet Crescent 1962-1982 but my brother stayed in the same house until 2017.
This of course, is as my memory remembers, with a bit of Alzheimer's
A good place to 'really ask' would be on Facebook, Kirkcaldy and Dysart in Old Pictures and Postcards: https://www.facebook.com/groups/143346532499298/?fref=nf
or Linktown tenants and Residents association: https://www.facebook.com/Linktown-tenants-and-Residents-association-103296274555673/
cheers
