Hopefully we hold onto him. If we get shafted for Bowie we are shafted for automatic promotion. I would expect bigger / higher clubs to try to take the p*ss to begin with. We have a reputation. We may well be able to bring in players in February, but if we want to bring in players from higher leagues - are they not constrained by the January deadline for that side of the deal? I am just guessing - I could be wrong. Then there is the cost of a like-for-like replacement, the uncertainty and the down-time. Either way, if we did sell him, we would have to translate that value to boots on the pitch - very quickly. I can't see how that would happen in time, so I hope the club would not be as desperate as to be brow-beaten into selling again. Please just get out of this league first, THEN consider offers and opportunities for youngsters! You know it makes sense!

We,re losing money season upon season and in debt to the tune of 1.4 mill.

Neil, I know The Rovers are famous for getting transfers wrong but if they sell Ziggy in this window (because of the money and because/if he wants to go to a club in a higher league ) they surely will make it a condition that he is loaned back until the end of the season? Almost certainly, buying club will not be seeing him as an immediate first team player but rather acquiring him for his potential and be happy to give him further gametime at The Rovers to add to his experience. Thats how I see it,anyway.
What concerns me is if the Board do not get a high enough fee upfront. Sell-on clauses can work very well (and failing to put one in potentially disastrous) but there is no guarentee that they will work out in practice. A supplementary fee after a specified number of first -team games comes with a similar caveat.
As for February transfers in,I am confident that the extended period allows transfers in from higher leagues. I 'm sure some on this website eg Wolfie could provide the link to the requisite regulation..

If the FFP is correct, any club buying Ziggy would agree to loan him back for the rest of this season. If that is right, if the club were to stick to their guns and if the price was right, it might actually work in our favour. It is poor short term, panic decisions that got us into this league and into his level of debt in the first place.

As for the debt, the biggest part of it is owed to John Sim's company. It will never be paid back in this league, but might eventually be paid back in the Championship or with good cup runs (in real cups!) Wink

Yes we have £1.4M debt and worrying though that is it's serviceable and it's to directors/former directors so there's no immediate threat of foreclosure unlike if it was with HMRC. Ziggy is on a 2.5 yr contract and so time is on our side with this. I can't see the board leaping in early as it's not in their best interests to do so.

Club aren't desperate and so are preferring to play the long game. When the club does finally accepts a bid on Kieran I'm confident it will be a low to mid 6 figure one and there will likely be some add-ons, if he goes this season or next I'm positive there would be a loan clause.

Hopefully if an offer is accepted, it is from down south as clubs up here are like vultures where we are concerned. A young guy with such potential and over two years left on contract could easily command a £300-500k offer from England (hopefully with sell on clause) while sides like Hearts, Hibs etc will be trying to pinch him for 50k!

As the article suggests, loaned back for rest of season makes a load of sense for such a young boy, let him get more experience/game time in an environment he is used to

Manchester Utd rumoured to be after 16 year old Birmingham player Jude Bellingham who comes with a price tag of £30 million. I take it Eric Drysdale doesn't handle Birmingham FC transfer negotiations.
I wonder how much a better prospect this lad is supposed to be compared with Bowie. Will it be reflected in the price we put on Kierons head. Mental the price players go for just because they play in England.

I just look at it as its debt irrespective of who its owed to.All it would need is one of the directors/former directors or a few to fall on hard times and look for their money back or even for their to be a fall out

With no disrespect to Bowie, Bellingham is a better prospect at a higher level of football for his age. Already in the England youth squads, playing first team football in the Championship (25 games, 4 goals, 1 assist). He also comes with that 'English premium tax' as well as being considered home grown.

I wasn't trying to say Bowie was anywhere near the player Bellingham is. Just that for a 16 year old to be worth that much how much of a better prospect must he be than Bowie.
I am also aware many people see the English championship as a step higher than the Scottish 1st Division.
But has Bellingham ever played in a cup named after a chocolate biscuit and made it to the semis? One up for Kieron

Popped along to see my bosses lad playing for Dundee Utd rsv against Hibs rsv in the cup this afternoon, bumped into Frank Dougan who is an ex Hibs Director and now Hibs Academy director, we were chatting about Gullan (not coming back) but he was keen to discuss his time with us and mentioned that not only the academy coaches but also first team staff were very much aware of both Bowie & Tait
Just saying like
Hibs won 5-2 and the young lad didn't have a good game but his first after return from injury.
Hibs have some very decent young lads (only watched the first half) including a Scots International (age group) and a Filipino international (Yrick Gallantes) who looked very tidy but wee.

I'm not worried, I don't think he'll be a-wafer sometime yet!
