Well Ziggy is certainly getting his profile raised on TV.
First he scores two in the Tunnock's Cup then Raith fan Shaughan can't resist talking him up on A View From The Terrace!
Shaughan rates him as the best Rovers prospect in a long time. Better than David Bates (now a Scotland international) ,better than Ziggy's own hero, Lewis Vaughan? Physically he has the advantage over Lewie in every sense, thats for sure, but we'll see.
If he keeps working at his game (eg right foot) who knows how high he can go. But he's barely turned 17 so the word ''prospect'' is very relevant. I'd like to see him at SP for some time yet and, when he does go, not only a decent fee for Raith (for once!) but also a rolling sell-on clause. Maybe even a loan back deal, but that could depend on where Rovers are at that point. He needs to play, tho, not be stuck in someone's reserve team ,since his progress,so far, shows he is a quick
learner.

Paul Lambert reported this morning to be head of the queue to sign Ziggy for Ipswich

The last ones ( if my memory is correct!) we transferred to Ipswich weren't too shabby.
A long time ago now but Jim Thorburn and Jake Bolton come to mind unless there have been any others since then that I've forgotten about. Confused

I'd be very surprised if Ipswich could afford the fee we should be look to get for him. They're not in good financial shape.

If we let anyone go, we have to factor in the potential cost to the club of maybe staying down (possibly as a result). Depending on which teams are in League 1 next season, that cost could be massive. Any price paid would also only be currency if we could bring in other players with it this season and get out of this league regardless!

You are right,Neil.
Don't need to look further back than letting Ross Callachan go,without sufficient time to replace him. The Club received money but the team suffered a severe blow which can back to haunt the Board.

''Fortunately'' Ziggy's form has dipped-as happens to young players,particularly- so scouts recent reports may not be so favourable.

Willing to suffer a few more weeks with Ziggy on the bench and then when the League One window closes (not sure of exact date in February) ,the young man bursts back with another hot scoring streak!!

Don't think, with our size of squad ,that we can afford to sell/ lend anyone in the window- except, perhaps, Victoria -if he's only to be used so sparingly and if lending him out allows us to recruit a more useful asset (but would we want him playing for another team in our League ,No)

I would like to think that any deal for him would include him being loaned back to us for the rest of the season.

We would get next to nothing for him if he moves cross border. Developmental fees would only come into play if he moved to another Scottish team. That doesn't apply in a move to another jurisdiction. Also, there is his age to be considered. He is still a teenager so it would be a move with a view to developing the players potential. Finally, given his age and the level he is currently playing at, his wages would not amount to much (in the world of English football) so any fee based on buying out the remainder of his contract again, wouldn't be insurmountable for an English team.

If you believe every other rumour he was locked in signing talks with another club earlier today.

Canny see it, but ye never know.

This would only apply if he's out of contract.
As he's under contract, we can ask for whatever fee we want and it's then up to the buying club, regardless of whether they're Scottish, English or foreign, to decide whether they're prepared to pay that amount for him.

Absolutely correct. For some reason I completely forgot that he is under contract. Must be the Dalmore 15yr old.

Anyway, I for one hope he is at Rovers for a few more years yet and I hope he doesn't end up at Hearts Smile

It would be good to see the lad here for a long time to come, he's a good wee player. Could do with improving his fitness and stamina though, he always looks knackered in the 2nd half of games. That'll come with age and training though.

True enough, but he IS improving as regards stamina. Back in October/November, he would be blowing out his backside after 60-65 mins. It's now 70-75 mins. He is getting there, and will improve as he matures to adulthood.

Mind you, he has a long way to go before he's at Ross Matthews or Dylan Tait levels, those two probably the fittest at the club despite their relative youth. Physical size may be something to do with the difference in development pace as well, of course...

Agreed. Tait is unbelievable for a lad so young. Both he and Bowie could go a long way in the game if they're heads are in the right place and they are coached well, I don't see a better place for their first team football and development than here right now. Learning from Hendry, Spencer, Baird, Anderson etc as well as regular minutes on the park is invaluable.
