Finally the penny has dropped and McGlynn has realised our defense is mince, hopefully this guy is an improvement. _________________ http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ |

What, we have actually signed a defender? Surely not, nobody can displace Bene or Davo!! |

Defender with 400+ top flight appearances? Great news. Hopefully he can strike up a partnership with McKay and pass on his experience. |

The article says he can play anywhere across the back 4.
Probably see him thrown in at RB and miller pushed into midfield and McKay back on the bench.
Might have been a better idea to play McKay at centreback and sign a midfielder with a bit of steel about them.
Not denying that the defence isnt ropey but the midfields inability to win the ball when not in possession or even close them down is just as critical imo. _________________ Competitive goals: Easton 5, Vaughan 5, Smith 4, Hamilton 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Mitchell 1, Mullin 1, Stanton 1, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

Unbelievable! Moan, moan, moan about a ropey defence. Manager, agreed belatedly, does something about it.
And without a hint of a blush, Scotty and Vinnie complain about it and decide it would've been better to sign a defensive midfielder instead
No wonder the manager loses his rag from time to time! |

I call it as I see it, goals aren’t just lost by defenders, the 7 goals conceded at Stranraer and Methil weren’t just down to ropey defenders and poor goalkeeping (although it clearly didn’t help) they were mostly down to poor defending in the middle of the park allowing the opposition to push us back time and again.
Davo, Bene, McKay, Mendy and even Miller and McDonald can play in those central defensive areas.
By contrast in midfield although we at long last have some creativity but imo there is a distinct lack of steel, Matthews is one of the few in the side you would expect to put a strong challenge in....and he is out for a while.
I believe Anderson’s influence and organisation is part of what’s required but I still cant shake the feeling that there’s a lack of steel in the midfield, even more so without Ross Matthews. If the midfield continues to be overrun away like it was in the last two outings then the defence will continue to be put under pressure, let’s hope SA proves a harder nut to crack. _________________ Competitive goals: Easton 5, Vaughan 5, Smith 4, Hamilton 2, Dick 1, Gullan 1, Masson 1, Mitchell 1, Mullin 1, Stanton 1, Watson 1, OG's 1, |

were inudated with central defenders....who have been found out consistently to not be good enough at this level and have cost us on several occassions. Its all very well having plenty who can play in this position but if they arent good enough then there has to be something done to address it. McGlynn has brought in a season professional who may help these players improve as well as stabilising an already dubious back line. |

Not too far off topic, but Mendy has a little time at defensive mid...from what we saw before the concussion, it seems he had resonable speed...maybe, just maybe we could make a silk purse outta the sow's ear? Plus, surely S. Anderson is the kind of player who can mentor Mendy unlike Davo and Bene. |

The whole teams not exempt from blame so lets not throw it all on central defence _________________ THERES FIVE OF ME |

McGlynn will probably play him as a left winger or a goalie... |

It is true that we have plenty centre backs anyway, and the team do need to defend better as a whole.
However, Anderson is a superb signing for this level. Could see even during his brief stint on Saturday what he is going to bring in terms of organisation and communication - something that is lacking at the moment at the back.
Whilst the team have to defend as a unit, you don't see teams who defend well with poor centre backs. A strong commanding presence back there should in theory spread throughout the team.
We were top scorers in the league last season, and didn't go up. That does not happen if the defence is good enough. |
