Ah, John Martyn. Saw him at the Odeon, I think in 1980. Great acoustic set. He got mightily peeved off with the guy controling the spotlight that night as I recall.
"Can the person controling the spotlight (which is in my eye) turn the f.ing thing off". Class.

I saw him a few times and every time without fail he'd strut on stage with a freshly lit cigarette, take a puff then impale it on a stray string protruding from a machine head of his guitar.

This annoyed me as I failed to see what point was being made.

Thankfully his performance was always enough to overcome my annoyance.
