Well Flyers weekend didn’t go to badly.
On Saturday night in front of over 1800 fans they came back from 3-1 down to end the game 3-3. Going to be tough heading over to Belfast for the second leg without a lead but this team had a solid away record recently so I certainly wouldn’t right them off.
Sunday night Flyers headed down to Sheffield in league action, after falling behind and ending the first period down 1-0 they fought back to end the second period 2-1 ahead and sealed an impressive road victory with the game finishing 3-1.
The toys drive went well too with fans going to the ice and handing gifts to the players. A transit van and a pick up truck drove onto the ice and we’re both easily filled by the players.
Roll on Friday and a wee trip over the Tay to watch Flyers take on Dundee Stars.

For me, a successful Flyers is the last thing Rovers needs, particularly as our form tends to go to pot around the time the ice hockey season begins to get into full flow.

I doubt many people can afford to spare the time/money to do both things so we really need the Flyers to be as poor an alternative option as possible.

That's no fault of the Flyers but just the way it is.

Here’s an update of Flyers results so far over the festive period.
A bit of a surprise on the 22nd when flyer took the short trip to Dundee but lost 4-2 in a tight game but a really poor show considering current form.
The next night Flyers travelled away again this time to Guildford to face another in form side in the Flames. Fife went a goal down in the second period but two goals from Dman Ian young gave Flyers the two points in OT.
Finally on Boxing Day Fife were at home to struggling Edinburgh Capitals, and oh did Edinburgh struggle again. Fife ran out 10(yes ten) goals to 1 winners.
Goals came from Stockton x3, Schaber x2, Heelis, Gauthier x2, LeBlanc and Young.
So two more games before the end of the year in a busy festive period.
Saturday the 30th flyers are at home to Guildford who’ll be out for pay back after the loss at home.
Then the traditional Hogmanay game as Flyers fans travel en masses to Edinburgh for the Hogmanay clash and a bit of a party. Let’s hope the team give them something to celebrate.

Another win for the Flyers tonight in front of a good crowd of over 1900, which is pretty good when you consider how many games there’s been crammed in a short period.
Flyers ran out 5-3 winners (with five different scorers Gauthier, Schaber, Mosey, Finucci, Young) against the Guildford flames but it should never have been the close. Flyers were 3-0 up at the end of the first 5-1 at the end of the second and coasting and that was probably the problem. Flyers took their foot off the gas and nearly lived to regret it.
But that’s another two point in the bag and should give us confidence going into murrayfield tomorrow.

The Hogmanay game was a far tighter game than the previous against Edinburgh with fife running out 5-3 winners.
The goals came from LeBlanc, Heelis x2, Stockton, Bloodoff.

Wednesday night saw Manchester Storm visit Fife Ice Arena. Considering the form the two sides are in I think most would have expected a far tougher game, but discipline and the Fife crowds ability to get under a players skin made this a more comfortable game than it should have been. Flyers were two ahead in the first when Jay Rosehill after being wound up by flyers players and fans completely lost the plot and got chucked out the game. Manchester’s discipline fell apart for a while and by the end of the game had 71 minutes worth of penalties.
Final score was Fife Flyers 6 Manchester Storm 2
Flyers goals came from Birzins, Bloodoff, Finucci, LeBlanc, Young, Stockton.
This weekend is a doubleheader against our biggest rivals over the last few years the Braehead Clan. Fife are at home on Saturday night at 19:15 if you’ve ever thought about attending a hockey match this would be a great place to start. You’ll probably be looking at around 2500 fans and if it’s a tight game the atmosphere will be electric.

Saturday night saw Flyers beat braehead in front of a little over 2600. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best game to watch but it was a tense night with Flyers clinching it 3-2 in over time with goals from Finucci, Bloodoff x2.

Sunday Fife headed through to braehead for the return fixture and once again proved to good for the clan. Early on fife looked like they were struggling to get out of first gear but were still comfortably the better side. The longer the game went on the Flyers took over more and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners with goals from Stockton, Gauthier, Bloodoff x2.

So that’s Flyers up to third in the league and increasing their lead at the top of the conference. Cup action next as Flyers travel over to Belfast on Tuesday night.
