Thanks Eric for the wee insight into just what a gem of a man Ally is.
Your post just sums him up, especially for those who don't know him or haven't had the great pleasure in life of knowing him. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!

Really puts everything else into perspective....Ally is a battler, and his spirit is evident in his posts. Talks to Eric and his first thoughts are of the Rovers.
Hard to know what to say, but you're an inspiration, sticking two fingers up to this horrible disease. _________________ A proud member of the 45. Saor Alba. |

If there is a better man or braver man out there in football i would be very surprised. Its an absolute shock at whats happening to him and i am struggling to take this continued news in.I have known ally for many years all through our love of the rovers whether that was going to games, him managing the supporters club team i played for or just seeing ally on match days.He has a heart of gold in fact its a rovers badge there thats how much the club means to him so he will fight all the way. _________________ YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE

It's good to know that Ally is surrounded by caring and concerned people. We have to thank them for helping Ally through this difficult period and showing him the companionship we can't offer at this time. We remember the good times as well Ally and you were a big part of them. _________________ It's a Mystery!! |

I've never met Ally personally but would see him sometimes on the south stand concourse chatting away to the fans and remember him looking so upbeat and positive. However the thing I remember most was when BBC Alba interviewed him when a Rovers match was being televised (last season I think?). They were asking him how he was coping with his illness and during the conversation he revealed that in one way he felt lucky as he made a point of telling his loved ones and friends how much they meant to him and encouraged us all to do the same while we could. Knowing what he was going through and that he was still thinking about others said it all about the man. A true Rovers Legend. |

ALLY, words cannot describe the strength and dignity you have, to cope with the illness over the past two years. I tip my hat to you in awe of the inner strength and composure you have shown with your personal health battle. At times like this is when your family will become a priority and support each other.
At the start of every home game the announcer says " let's get right behind the rovers". I'd like to say all the rovers family " let's get right behind Ally Gourley " you have done so much for not only the club but have touched the hearts of almost every fan involved with the club old and new. Life moves far too fast nowerdays and everyday we should stop and take a few moments to not only think about our own perspective on life but also spare a thought for others as well.
I hope you get this message mate. Thanks Ian

Ally has posted a message this afternoon saying:
Quote: | Dear Friends
Not sure exactly what to write but this is probably my final posting. Apparently pneumonia has set in. Last night was horrible and couldn't breathe. Have been on oxygen all morning. Doc asked for family to come round as I've now got 48 hours. Thank you everyone for your love and friendship. I really do love you all. Jonathon or Michelle may provide further updates

Very difficult to find words that express our feelings, other than the one that shines clearly through all of Ally's updates. Love.
To know he is universally loved and admired by his friends, colleagues, and the wider Rovers fraternity may be of some comfort to him and his family. |

Oh dear! We all knew it was coming but now that it is at this very final stage the heart is heavy.
I can only say thank you for your friendship, Ally.
It was a great pleasure to have been associated with you.
I have fond memories of trips you made north in recent years and the lifts home and of visits to Stark's Park. They'll never dim.
I hope your remaining time with your family and friends be as comfortable and pain free as is possible.
It's the very least you deserve.
'Bye pal.
Peace and love be with you for now and forever. _________________ Talk on! Talk on!
