Should Raith Fantalk continue?
No close it down. It is outdated and ruined by individuals.

This forum used to be a lot of fun with lively debate, good humour and informed debate. Recently it has turned into a site for petty arguments, mundane topics and even deliberate provocation. It's good to have differing opinions but when some posters continually post negative comments to simply seek a reaction then the thread is ruined.
So, time to call it a day or carry on regardless?

It's certainly lost its charm that's for sure.
Too many self indulgers, not content with pleasuring themselves have to get their kicks from trying to get others to bite.

Don't see the point in closing it down though, if you did would another version spring up and if it did it'd surely be be no different.

Adding an ignore function could be the answer.

I'm sure the manager and all the players not to mention the board read Fan Talk with great interest!

Only thing that annoys me is individuals using the boards to have one to one discussions or arguements or slagging each other off etc. Like everything else though if you don;t want to read it or contribute then ignore it.

Other than that I enjoy the pre and post match debates and reading differing opinions.

What else would you do on a Saturday night with no Sporting Post to keep you occupied?

There's no proof that the negative posts being put on Fantalk are done in a deliberate way to seek a reaction and in that sense it can't be moderated more strictly. The day a mod wades into a thread and starts editing posts saying "your post is overly negative, please try and be positive" is the day the forum should get shut down.

For what it's worth I enjoy Fantalk, yes there are wee cliques here and there and people who have been on the board for ages with thousands of posts that think they themselves run the board but these are usually the same people that sit frantically bashing away at the keyboard spitting slavers at their screen with steam coming out their ears because they see AU or Vinnie have had the audacity to post in a thread.

Keep the forum the way it is and if people wind you up just ignore them.

There's nothing wrong with Fantalk, sure there are slavers, eejits and overly positive folk on here Shocked , but if you don't like what's posted, ignore it, can't believe how some folk get wound up by some posters

Claiming deliberate provocation is taking it a bit far. However if one believes that to be the case then surely the easiest way to combat this is to ignore any attempt to provoke ? I would imagine if someone was deliberately looking for a reaction they would soon get bored if they couldn't provoke any sort of response.

Personally I feel it's time to get the old sweeping brush out and tidy up the site. There is many duplicate threads or similar topics that are posted up. For example we play teams twice at home and away each season. Would it not make sense to have one thread for raith v Morton @ home and one for away.

A more modern style of chat board would be make a massive diffrence, however no matter what you post, even if it is meant in a way to open up debate without conflict many people will read into the comment/opinion in a different way. I have see this happen many times even in the workplace with E-mails.

I opened the thread up about goalkeepers as there was a fair bit of debate on a few different threads about who should have the start in between the sticks. I posted a comment about whether Ray would give McGurn the nod for Saturday v Alloa and some posters spat the dummy. Perhaps an over haul or a new chat board with new emotions and more posting options could breath life into the old dog.

I do agree that there is some antagonist posting going on but I don't feel it is that bad. The sad thing is it can put many new members or old even from posting up at all. The next question would be who is willing to put there own time into re developing a chat site. Smile Smile

Add another poll option on re develop the site. I did not vote.

opinions, debate, arguments happen on the terraces/seating and just because it is typed on a forum makes it no different. The common goal we all have is we all want the Rovers to succeed. Keep Fantalk I say!

Hear hear keep Fantalk.

However, its worth remembering that Fantalk as well as many other RRFC related things are run by volunteers and its hard work at times moderating stuff, deleting stuff, reminding users of the code of conduct and YES there are a good number of users that should be struck off or suspended for a period.

But no, its a Fan site and its one way of reading and producing good topics, KEEP FANTALK.
