After the last home game of the season (vs Arbroath), when hopefully we'll win the championship, Fife's Finest have organised an end of season celebration down at DV8 (formerly Thunder Road) to raise money and hopefully to celebrate winning the league!

We've decided to make the night a wee bit different and opted for a 60s theme! We have a 60s tribute band called 'The Falcons' for the night, along with a 60s DJ and we'll be decking the place out in retro gear for a more authentic look - 60s clothes and fancy dress is optional of course!

If this clashed with the official supporters club night, don't worry if you want to do both - our night finishes at 3 in the morning so you can come down after! (we'll even give you a discount on your ticket)

Also included is a buffet, raffle and we have a Rovers top from the early 90s signed by the league-winning side for auction.

We'll also have our own member awards and our annual awards for former Rovers players. In past years we have had Frank Connor, Donald Urquhart, Ronnie Coyle and Ernie Till receiving awards. Can't say just now who'll be along this year as it'll spoil the surprise, but we're looking at getting the promotion-winning side from 1967 along for the night as our special guests.

Obviously, the more people who come along, the better the night will be and the more money we can raise.

Tickets are £10 and the night starts at 8pm, and if you want tickets you can PM me. Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Soundwave what are you actually raising this money for.I would like to know before I commit myself.I know that if I go to the official end of season dance where the official plaudits are distributed that the money raised there goes right into the club.What happens to the funds you raise.I am curious as I hope that if going straight to the team or youth set up that you do very well,it's just that I can't ever recall a picture in a paper or programme with Fifes Finest handing over a cheque if I am wrong please forgive me as I do not wish to decry the sterling work you carry out.

Thanks for your response Zico and your questions are perfectly valid, and welcome.

Quite simply, we haven't agreed where the money will go yet because we've no idea how much we can expect to raise (if any at all!). If we are able to raise a significant sum then our members can discuss with the club where the money should go. However we don't want to make any promises we can't keep as there is a risk the event won't raise much and we don't want to let anyone down.

Our annual events basically do enough to break even without raising enough money to merit column space in the Courier or Fife Free press, so it is hoped that by raising the profile this year we can generate more interest and a decent profit margin.

If picking a cause up front such as YDI helps to sell more tickets, then we'd certainly consider this approach. For now we're just putting the idea out there to see how much interest there is in the event.

For info, we talk regularly with the club about opportunities to help out where we can and in the past couple of years our fundraising has contributed to bringing in new players, youth team kit, running an open day at Stark's Park, buying club merchandise to give away to kids etc. on top of our annual sponsorship of 3 players, whose signed jesrseys are donated/auctioned off for charity. Not to mention the money raised through Rock the Rovers, which goes directly to the club.

Hopefully a big event like the 60s night will raise enough money to do something useful Laughing

So basically you raise money to cover your costs and after various other charities what's left goes back to the rovers or am I misreading your post.Can you tell me how much money you have donated to the save the rovers fund or how much you have given the various rovers fund raising activeties so far.I really hope I am wrong in reading your post please enlighten me and others who are here.I appreciate that the money raised is limited but surely the majority should go to the team you alledigely support R.R.F.C.As this is what we are all about or is your constitution different?
P.S Can you tell us how much money you have raised for the Rovers and how much you have donated?

Yeah, I think you've misinterpreted my post.

It's quite simple - whatever money we raise on the night will go to the Rovers. Whether this be through the youth initiative, player budget or to pay the gas & electricity will be dependant on the situation at RRFC in May and how much we raise, which is why we can't commit anything just now. However we have agreed that money raised through the signed shirt auction will go to the youth development initiative.

Seems a bit off-topic to be asking for our club accounts, as any investment in RRFC is between the club and our members and not really anyone elses business and i've already given a breakdown of some of the things paid out for over the past year or so. Seems even less relevant to ask about our contribution to the 'save the rovers' fund, especially as the campaign was actually called 'Reclaim the Rovers' (but let's not nitpick) given a) the campaign concluded over 3 years ago, b) it was a combined supporters campaign and not any one particluar group and c) members of our group, myself included, were heavily involved in fundraising to the extent of not seeing their families for days on end and having to take time off work to get campaign work done.

We run events which cover their own costs and raise a wee bit extra which we can save up for putting into RRFC, and help other supporters groups with their efforts e.g. by selling tickets or through sponsorship and donations. Our 60s night was happening anyway and would be covered by our members alone which is why anything else is a bonus. We don't need to make this event public, but it's an opportunity to raise a bit of money for Raith Rovers. If our lads want to raise money for the Black Watch or Cancer Research in addition to the money raised directly for the club then that's up to them, especially as these causes are close to the hearts of many Raith fans.

I hope this enquiry is a genuine interest in our small group and not an attempt to cause friction at a time when we should be rallying and supporting all the fundraising efforts of the Raith Rovers community. Given that nobody else who has propsed a fundraising activity has been subjected to the same scrutiny I have to assume it is the latter.

Can I ask that the moderators close this thread before it turns into another depressing and soul-destroying post-mortem of Fife's Finest. Which is making me wonder why we even bother. Depressing.
