An astute signing.
Welcome to the Rovers.
Just out of interest.
Any relation to 'Pat of that ilk' from past Hibee days?

ETA Looked him up online
No relation to Pat ☹️

Was just about to say the same before your edit Embow. Laughing

Great addition to the squad in his own right, ably covering the loss of Tait and for a period of time, Spencer. Welcome aboard Sam.

Welcome aboard Sam, if you're half as good as your namesake you'll be a great asset to the club

I remember that when Sam Stanton broke though at Hibs , he was thought to be likely to have a very bright future. Whether that was erroneously linked, initially, to the Stanton name, I cannot say, but he did play at the Scotland youth levels. If I'm right ,Hearts fans were talking up a rising star, of their own, about the same time. Can't recall clearly who that was ,but he faded, subsequently.
Therefore , a little caution to be exercised ,but this could be another astute signing by JMcG and Smudger. Someone not yet fulfilling obvious potential and something to prove. Add to that getting the thumbs up from Lewis Vaughan and we could be on another winner!
A warm welcome to Sam.

The announcement was not clear (at least to me).

Does anyone know, is he here already training with the squad in preparation for his international release papers? Or does he not arrive at Starks park until the 1st of January?

If it's the latter, I struggle to see how he might be chosen for the Pars game on the 2nd January?

I would hazard a guess that he's already here, as Dundalks season is finished and also going through a bit of restructure

He has a Rovers jersey on! does that mean he is here and in training or was he sent one as an early Xmas gift - hopefully in training - I think he is Pat Stanton's son - my tennis mate will confirm - he is Ted Brack who has written several books on the Hibees including paragraphs on Pat Stanton.

Here is another bit of Joppa trivia - Laurie Ellis is the son of Stella Ellis (nee Coumbus - spelling could be inaccurate) who was at KHS with me in the late 60s and Laurie was brought up in Joppa his parents live in Joppa and are friends with another of my tennis friends.

here is another - Lewis Vaughn's old man played rugby for Portobello and is friends with another tennis pal of mine - when they heard I was a Rovers fan they got me a signed top - No 10 with Vaughn on back and signed by the team. Very proud of that.

At a loose end today

Was reading on their forum page that they appointment a new coach over the weekend but Stanton had already made the decision to leave.

They seem to rate him and mentioned he was one of their better players in a poor team.

I suspect there may of been some agreement allowing him to train with us.

Willie K
See above post (s). He's not related to Pat. Only a namesake.
Sorry to disappoint you.😊

From the official site.

"Subject to International clearance being granted on January 1st 2022, Sam will be available for selection from the New Year derby match on 2nd January 2022 onwards."

I take that as reading he's already here. Dundalk's season is finished. He's pictured in a Rovers strip.
All good to go methinks... obviously depending on international clearance.
