Partick's victory over Arbroath leaves them in pole position to finish in the play-offs All they need to do is win against us!
Of course if they win at Kirkcaldy and Dundee beat Queens Park to finish as champions then Partick will be runners up.
So either Dundee or Queens park will be champions, and any four of the top six could end up in the play-offs (although that'd take a freakish set of results)
It should make for a bumper away support at Starks Park.
Wish we were a bigger part of the finale, glad it's all over though.

Could be quite an interesting game with many permutations…
Partick essentially need a point to make the play offs while even a defeat could see them scrape in. As you mention, a victory gives them a decent chance of 2nd place and avoiding the ‘dreaded’ extra play-off round..
On paper it looks a decent fixture for Thistle what with our recent form and lack of options but I don’t know… we will have at least 2/3 guys back in, playing at our own place in front of a large away following, it might be nothing to play for in terms of league position but would like to think our players want to go out on a high and give it a good “get it up ye” to Thistle and their support… I wouldn’t write us off.
In terms of season as a whole? Not a washout like some are making out, possibly unlucky not to build up a higher points total than we had in 1st half of season.. two very good cup runs… We all know that we never did get that focal point, goal scoring No9 we craved, we all know the basic defending at times has been questionable, the overall quality has been just below what’s required to challenge at the top end but these facts will be known to the club and management and (hopefully!) addressed for next season.
Whether they have been good enough or not, it’s hard to question the attitude and mentality of any of our players when they have pulled on the jersey this season and for that reason whether we see them again next season or they head for pastures new, deserve our thanks and best wishes |

Hopefully we will have more options for this match so we can have a right go at them. I really hate watching teams celebrate something at Stark's Park, but it would make it easier if we could win this one.
I think we have had quite a good season, two good cup runs and a decent unbeaten run, albeit too many draws from winning positions which cost us any chance of making the top four. We were late appointing IM and it was all a bit " flung together" regarding signings eg Nolan & O'Riordon. When you look at the goals conceded by the teams above us, Dundee apart, we are about the same, but we have not scored anywhere near enough. This must be addressed next season as we have relied too heavily on attacking midfielders and wingers to provide the goals for the last 3 seasons. I know it's the hardest part of the game to find a good striker, but anything will be an improvement on what we have had.
One thing is for sure, there is going to be plenty of talking points on and off the pitch this close season. |

Problem with going back to grass is the problem we and others that cannot afford a kings ransom to provide enough materials and workers to keep it in the nick that you see in the EPL.
Improve 5 G pitches if indeed there is a direct correlation between fake grass and real manicured lawns which those that can afford it play on.
Personally I hated sodden pitches. Frozen pitches, bald in part pitches,not flat pitches, pitches covered in sand and particularly those pitches which resemble the type of pitch that animals graze on. Bald pitches etc.
The pass and move footy that our players are used to now is only possible because of the more predictable runs and bounces that 5G allows.
Most teams play better footy on fake grass purely coz they don’t have to alter their style of play as they would indeed have to do whilst playing on widely differing surfaces every other week.

The new trend in pitches is Hybrid, a mixture of grass and plastic.
Don't ask me how that works, however IIRC Parkhead, Tynecastle and the white elephant at Lesser Hampden to name but three have the aforesaid covering.

I was pretty against the new surface at the time but now I like it. I easily forget it’s not grass while watching a home game, it has suited our recent style of play and it almost rules out the numerous postponements for frozen or waterlogged pitch which is great.
It’s maybe not ideal to train and play on artificial surfaces most days of the week but I highly doubt it is the majority reason we have suffered so many injuries this season. I’m no sports science/injury expert but plenty other football teams (along with other sports) do the same without our troubles.
Surely the range of different injuries to players throughout the season suggest blaming the surface is the ‘easy’ option? |

Hybrid isn’t suitable for Starks Park as currently used, neither is grass. Grass is suitable for up to only 800 hours of use a year, hybrid increases this to 1,200 hours, while a plastic pitch can do up to 2,000 hours. Those numbers are nearly 5.5 hours a day all year for plastic, nearly 3.3 hours for hybrid and just under 2.2 hours a day for grass.
Unless we closed the use of SP’s surface to the community, we’re never going back. |

To get things back on track for the game I'm going with the second part of the thread title.
Cannae come quick enough for me so a decent full reset in all aspects can be hopefully implemented asap and to be well bedded in by the time next season rolls around.

After beating QP at home and giving ourselves a real chance albeit an outside chance of being competitive for 4th, the total collapse since then has been hugely disappointing.
If these results since occurred in the first six games of any season i.e. five defeats and a draw Murray would rightly have been punted.
Injuries and safety in the league have resulted in this capitulation being accepted by most but it's been a grim finish.
So I'll be at the game but in the camp of TF it's over. |

Has he not been there with Utd and hibs and struggled. Cannot recall what league County were when he was with them. |
