England usually get drawn against The Isle of Man, The Scouts and Your Nan.

This is most refreshing.

After the farce of the Champions League draw last week, is anyone really going to be brave enough to offer a justifiable explanation?

Embow, as I understand it (but giving no guarantees, as it's complicated) the basic ideas behind the Nations League (and, please remember , Scotland was one of the prime movers) are 1 ) to give an alternative pathway for ''smaller'' countries to get into the Finals of the World Cup and the Euros (and this worked for us ,first time round) 2) to have teams of a similar standard playing off against each other and 3) to replace meaningless friendlies with competitive games.
Therefore, at the start of the first Nations League all the teams were divided into Leagues , according to their rankings at that time.
Scotland were in League C then and were quite highly ranked within that League and, so, in a decent Pot. As you know, we won our Group and this had two effects. The immediate effect was that we got into the Play-offs (and you know that went well!).
The other effect was that we were promoted into League B for the last Nations League. The opposition was tougher (although roughly at our improved level) and we blew it! ie no backdoor to the World Cup and no promotion to League A.
IF we had won promotion, we could have found ourselves playing against ''the big boys'' , all of whom have been drawn to play against some other ''big'' teams (albeit there is more than one Group),hence why eg England are not in their traditional easy group for competitions!
There's a bit more to it than the above (eg a team does win the Nations League, Portugal won the first one, and France the last one) but ,I suspect, that's more than enough for now and you are sorry that you asked😂😂😂

Hypothetical, but if we were to top our group, would we be promoted to group A?

Are we really that close to sitting at the big teams dinner table?

It's centralised TV rights for the nations league so countries like our get to piggy back off the fact that the bigger nations get bigger TV revenues. UEFA isn't some omnipotent body lording it over the associations. UEFA is the associations, including Scotland, working as a collective. Just like the SFA is the clubs, including Raith, working as a collective.
